"Work keeps us from three great evils: boredom, vice, and need." -Voltaire

I realize it has been a little while since I have updated, but I have been one busy gal! I finished all my graduate classes for the summer on the 19th of August, only to start band camp on the 21st. Camp went well; the kids were great, as usual and we got through the show. Of course, we have a lot of cleaning up to do, but the basics are there. Back to work tomorrow- boo! I really haven't had much of a summer vacation this year, unless you count the cruise, which was awesome, but I still took my laptop and all my work (to my mother's great disapproval!!). Orff Level I was really an experience for me. I started out just taking it for the six credits, but in the end, it literally saved my job. I know what you must be thinking; that sounds ridiculous. But honestly, if it wasn't for Penny Mahoney (my teacher) and her inspiration and guidance, I probably would have just slid by this year and not cared at all. After what happened job-wise this summer, I was void of determination for work. Thanks Penny! And how jealous am I that John just got a job in Penny's school, and will have her as his mentor!
I recently discovered this great little bookstore and coffeehouse that will be an ideal place for my many study sessions for my Orals this year. Today I went there, of course to get coffeee, but I also picked up a book that seems very interesting. Over the past couple of years, I have finally come into my own, so to speak, in terms of my political views. I am finding more and more that I fit in comfortably with liberal views, and am glad that many of my friends and colleagues do too! So, for my fellow liberals, I suggest picking up this book. It is called "What's the Matter With Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America" and it is by Thomas Frank. I will give you reviews and updates as I read along. I really don't need another book to read, seeing as how I have numerous ones to read for Orals and also some I would like to read on Orff. Oh well. There is always room for leisure reading!
Ok, time to go read something.
