This year I have felt increasingly unable to cope with the sometimes brutal shift pattern I have to endure on the trains. My early shift weeks were leaving me absolutly drained to a point I was wondering if there was something wrong with me. BUT when on late shift I was fine pretty much.
I was discussing the whole thing with a collegue a couple of weeks ago and the first thing he asked was whether I ate breakfast when on the early trains. Of course I goggled at him and quickly assured him that the thought of eating ANYTHING at 4.00am pretty much turned my stomach.
Apparently though he had had exactly the same problem - was coming into work early and not really eating anything till mid morning. He now eats breakfast everyday and feels soi much better for it.
So I thought I may as well give it a whirl - started off with sinmple porridge to get myself used to eating at that time and have, after a week and a half, progressed to having grapefruit, 2 grilled sausages, 2 grilled tomatoes and 2 pieces of toast! Not only that but even on little sleep I feel so much more awake and energetic.
Why have I never thought of this before???? Duh!!! Course the downside is that I will probably wake up every morning craving breakfast at 5.00am!!!!
