CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Kazuki Fuuchouin, Getbackers
In-Game Name: Kazuki Fuuchouin
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Position & Ship: Records Keeper, The Silvana

Appearance: Kazuki is of average height and slender build. He has long straight brown hair that falls slightly below his knees, which he wears tied back in three sections, one on either side of his head, and one behind. Two golden bells, about an inch across each, are affixed to the right section of hair.

He prefers to dress for freedom of movement while practicing his martial art, favoring long flowing shirts, and pants, more often than not in an Asian style of dress.

He is not particularly flamboyant of mannerism, but he does move with a certain grace brought about by years of training. This as well as the long hair and slight build cause others to mistake him for a woman quite often, though his voice is not feminine, and the illusion is often dispelled as soon as he opens his mouth.

Personality: There are multiple facets to Kazuki’s personality. On the one hand, he is outwardly serene, smiling, and friendly, quick to befriend, slow to anger, playful and inquisitive by nature. On the other, he does not mean to be self centered, nor does he even notice it, but growing up in an environment where there was always someone to cater to his every whim, he is a bit spoiled. Also, due to his upbringing, there are moments when he may even seem haughty. He has a very specific idea of what is dignified and what is beneath him.

He is light hearted but not without a serious side and an understanding of the world around him. While he is not quick to anger, insulting his family, school of fighting, or endangering those he considers friends may have terrible consequences. Once angered, Kazuki seems a different person entirely; eerily composed, deadly, and difficult to subdue.

Abilities/Weapons: Kazuki practices an ancient martial art, called the Fuuchouin String Style, which employs the manipulation of koto strings. The strings are stored in small bells, which he manipulates through vibration (concentrated amounts of energy or chi) applied by the fingers. The style is composed of a number of defensive as well as offensive techniques, often inspired by and named after forms found in nature. It is known overall for its versatility. With his strings, Kazuki is capable of creating shields as well as rending flesh, binding targets, and even eavesdropping on nearby conversations.

The Fuuchouin school advertises grace above all, and it is a tradition that the male heirs, like Kazuki, wear women’s kimono until the age of 15. Because of this training, he is also skilled in playing the koto as well as traditional dance. He is also, a competent seamstress, though in the traditional sense only, and after a series of embarrassing misunderstandings, prefers to avoid the word itself when advertising his services to the public.

For someone who received limited conventional education, Kazuki is quite intelligent. This is due for the most part to his formidable curiosity, and resulting habit of reading whatever he can get his hands on. Therefore his knowledge of most subjects is somewhat scattered and random, though he is especially interested, and learned in the area of religions, history, and cults.

How well can your character hack?: In his chosen career as an Information Seeker, it is only natural that he was very interested in the difference engines from the moment they became available for widespread use by the public. He finds them fascinating and after a decent amount of self study as well as asking the advice of hackers more advanced than he, he is able to hack things up to a medium difficulty.

Weaknesses: While able to rend flesh and bone with his strings, Kazuki is rendered essentially defenseless without his bells. He is a weapon user, and though he is in very good physical shape, faster and more agile than the average person, he would not do very well in hand to hand combat or against a seasoned fighter. He is able to defend himself ably against direct attacks from other weapon users, but against magic or gunfire would be considerably more vulnerable. Furthermore the strength of the strings is directly related to the strength of the user. Kazuki is exceptionally strong, however his strength is far from superhuman, and destroying man made structures, like building or ships, is quite beyond his abilities.

Eavesdropping with his strings is effective only so long as the party being listened to does not discover them and sever the connection. It also only works reliably up to a distance of 50 feet away.

His inquisitive nature serves as a weakness at times. When he is fascinated enough, he has a history of reckless behavior, rushing headlong into dangerous situations, if it seems that path will yield the knowledge he seeks.

His naiveté in the realm of personal relationships is also a problem. Because his charisma draws followers to him, he often unconsciously takes the devotion of others for granted. Separated from his home and family at such a young age, he had retained much of the egocentric qualities of youth. As the heir to the Fuuchouin family, the world seemed to revolve around him to a great degree, and even after he was driven from the comfortable center, he had Juubei, a childhood friend utterly devoted to protecting him, with him. So used to being surrounded by people devoted to protecting and serving him, he has been more than a little spoiled, and it follows that there is an unconsciously self centered quality to his actions. Leaving the Limitless Fortress without saying goodbye to Juubei, for example, does not seem like such a big deal to him. In canon, while in retrospect, he expects his friend to be a little angry with him, he is honestly surprised at the extent of the man’s anger when they are reunited, not comprehending why someone who devoted his life to him only to abandoned might be upset enough to turn against him.

Finally he is extremely quick to trust and forgive those he considers friends, even when they have a history of rewarding such behavior with betrayal.

History: Kazuki was born in Bellcius, the heir to the Fuuchouin, a very old family and long line of martial artists. He grew up within the walls of the family estate, training to inherit the family name and school of fighting. There he met Jubei, a member of the Kakei family, another clan of martial artists, who also practiced medicine. It had been a tradition for centuries that the members of the Kakei serve those of Fuuchouin both as physicians and protectors. As the heir to his family, Jubei was destined to fulfill that role for Kazuki, though to Kazuki, Jubei is much more than that, his treasured childhood friend above all.

Gifted even at a young age, he enjoyed a dedicated but peaceful upbringing until one day with out warning the family was attacked. Instructed by his mother to escape, Kazuki, reluctantly fled the burning mansion, with Jubei in tow. They made their way then, only 12 years old, to the Limitless Fortress, a wild ungoverned place where a pair of refugees, even children, would find it easy to hide from enemies outside.

Eking out an existence in the Limitless Fortress was difficult but not impossible for a pair of gifted young martial arts masters more than capable of defending themselves. Though eventually Kazuki grew tired of living under such chaotic conditions, and resolved to do something about it. The result was Fuga (loosely translated as Elegance), a street gang formed by Kazuki at the age of 15. As he steadily gained followers, he also gained a reputation for himself. The people of the Limitless Fortress spoke in hushed tones of Kazuki of the Strings, affording him the title, Prince of Fear, for his refined manner as well as his ruthlessness in battle. As a leader Kazuki was merciless in the territorial battles against rival gangs, not above sewing up a person’s mouth and eyes for showing disrespect, but also fair, and as Fuga came to dominate a larger portion of the Fortress, the ordinary people living under the gang’s protections, did enjoy a relatively peaceful existence.

Then the Lightning Emperor came to power, and Kazuki, impressed by the man’s strength of character as well as his prowess in battle, came to believe that he was meant to follow him. So when Ginji asked him to join him as one of the four kings of VOLTS, he accepted. Jubei followed, and in the absence of its leader, Fuga eventually disbanded.

In the VOLTS Kazuki had no less an infamous reputation but also came to befriend many of its members, among them Shido and Emishi. When the Lightning Emperor left the Fortress, and VOLTS was thrown into disorganization, Kazuki knew that its members would not follow the four kings as they’d followed Ginji. After Shido left, he did not stay long after. He left eventually, alone, without telling anyone, even Jubei. Without the Lightning Emperor he’d decided it was his destiny to follow, his presence there seemed pointless, and Kazuki turned to other endeavors.

He made his living then as an Information Seeker, that is someone who will seek out information or a person for a price. A researcher or a spy of sorts, people hired him to learn the things they needed to know. Putting his talents with the strings as well as his considerable charm to work in this new career proved extremely successful, and he was able to support himself as well as the travel necessary to practice his trade.

What most wouldn’t suspect is that Kazuki has an ulterior motive to choosing this particular brand of employment. Despite his cheerful disposition, the massacre of his family still weighs heavily on him, and he is devoted to learning the identity of those responsible, finding them, and taking his revenge.

Kazuki will be boarding the Silvana in search of new leads in the quest to avenge his family. To this end, a ship known as a hotbed of intrigue seems only a logical vessel to board. Taking employment as the ship’s records keeper to pay his fare as well as further his own ambitions, he’s perfectly happy to be in a position where he can poke his nose into everyone’s business legitimately, not that a lack of one would stop him anyway.
