I had a very good day today with Dave and Missi. Missi has a puppy named Sophie who's very energetic and sometimes lonely, so she wanted to get her a second dog to keep her company when she and everyone else in her home is away. So, we went out looking today for Sophie's tentative companion, bringing Sophie with us. The first shelter was depressing, the second even more depressing, the third was pretty good and the last one was still depressing, even more so than the others. Missi thought it looked depressing based upon the living situation of the dogs and the messiness of the places we went to. I thought it was depressing because about 90% of these dogs were Pit Bulls :(. I, being a strong supporter of Pit Bulls, am pretty bummed out that most of these dogs were bought by people who didn't know how to handle the dog and either abused it, raised it wrong, or just didn't care about it but just wanted it for show. Most of these dogs will be euthanized while the rest will go off to homes that have owners that don't know how to raise it properly, want it for show, etc.
I saw one today that I really wanted, too. It was a male, about a year or two old, had brown and gold stripes...it was the only quiet dog in the room, it sat quietly next to the cage and let me approach it. It wagged it's tail, it's ears were up, etc. It looked like he just wanted to lounge around and chill. In that way, I could kinda relate to that dog. I wish I had the means to take him home. I hope he finds a good home...He and the others in the pound will be in my prayers, but especially him.
