Oh. Dear. God.
12 and a half hour work day. With no break.
Actually, that wouldn't normally be too bad - the REAL problem is I was the ONLY fucking driver all night.
Perhaps I should rewind, since I've kind of left everyone I don't see in person much anymore out of the loop.....
I'm working as a driver for Trio's now (it's a pizza and deli place). Yes, I'm a delivery boy now. Reminds me of one or two old jokes, but whatever, it pays well. Even if you factor in they don't cover gas or anything. Then again, I've now gotten two parking tickets when before I haven't had anything against my record. No speeding, no parking, no rolling through stop signs and then BAM, $115 in fines. Boss says I can probably get it down to $85 though, since if I explain that I'm working there, they'll probably cut one in half since I really shouldn't have gotten it at all. The other one's my own damn fault. And then, of course, there was the tire I blew last week, that was another $65 I wasn't prepared to shell out.
Still, though, my bills are starting to finally get paid.
Anyway, today I had to work from 5PM to 5:30 AM. I was driving non-stop from when I got there to close at 3, 3:30 ish - we had three drivers scheduled but one hit a deer the other day and now has no car and the other just didn't show. And we were stupidly busy - even two drivers wouldn't have had time to slow down. It's much worse with only one though, because then you have things like a 1:10 delivery at SUNY Albany Empire Commons (uptown) and a 1:15 delivery at Albany Med Emergency Room (way downtown, probably 20 minutes away). Two drivers can head in different directions, you know? And of course, since everything was late, my tips were really shitty - only $41 for the night (should have been twice that). Of course, the hours are another $62.50 in my paycheck come saturday, so today was worth about $100. Well, it would be if not for the $65 ticket (that I can maybe get down to $30). And I drove about 60 miles, so that's about $5 in gas. And the half a pack of cigs I burned through is $2.50. So I net $31, $66 if I can get the ticket down. $30-60 in twelve and a half grueling hours.
THIS IS WHY I NEED TO FINISH SCHOOL AND SPEND THE REST OF MY LIFE AS A PROGRAMMER!
(Of course, if I hadn't gotten the ticket and we had a second driver, today would have been worth about $110 after gas and stuff, so...it's not as bad as I make it sound. Today just blew.)
Another note, my old phone was stolen a while back when I went to Jersey (like mid summer I think), but now I have a shiny new one. 878-9158. Sprint, with free sprint to sprint and nights starting at 7. It's the sexiest low-end phone I've ever seen - camera and bluetooth for $30, and it looks awesome. Don't care too much about the camera, but bluetooth is godsend since I'll be spending all day in a car so I can use those awesome pretentious little headsets and be cool and stuff.
I lost everyone's numbers (only had them in the old phone), so get in touch with me again somehow! I'm off tomorrow, but will probably sleep until at least 2 or 3 >.> Call, IM, whatever.
Now I sleep. Been awake far too long..
