Yesterday I had the wonderful experience of meeting Celebrity Makeup Artist Kym Lee and attending her makeup seminar aptly titled, "The Diva Next Door". After we were done learning her tips and making up our faces as Kym instructed, we were definitely Divas- and with some attitude. Positive attitude that is. Kym is all about upliftment, strong spirituality and supporting her sistas- no matter what race. (There were a few caucasian and asian-indian women there.) Her spirit is so strong that you have no choice but to feel the energy she puts out. Other speakers were a dentist on having healthy teeth and an engaging smile, a hair stylist on having a healthy hair regimen and regular trimmings, and an esthetician on skin care and regular facials. Kym even included an Evangelist to speak briefly about women and financial bondage, emotional baggage, and loving ourselves first to complete our makeover.
The products used were all by Flori Roberts. It was a unanimous decision that Flori Roberts cream-to-powder foundation in a compact was the BEST we ever wore on our skin. Most of us were MAC Cosmetics junkies and we all agreed that Flori Roberts foundation matched our different skin tones better than MAC. We had experiences where we owned or were sold about 3 different shades of MAC foundations and still craved a little something better. I normally by-passed the Flori Roberts kiosk in the malls and never really gave it a second thought. Ladies when I say EVERYONE looked smooth and blended. You could barely tell we had on anything. The coverage was excellent over my acne scarring and dark circles. The eye shadows were nice as well. Most of the colors were vibrant and were true to how they looked in the compact. The lip gloss was really sticky though. You really need to moisturize your lips before applying her lip glosses or it will not glide on. However, the color pay off was nice and shimmering. We were able to purchase the cosmetics and Kym Lee's makeup instructional video. She even sold us a complete makeup brush set in a nice faux leather tri-fold case.
I think the best part of the seminar was meeting others and helping each other put on their makeup, especially those lashes! I met some real together sistas and we all had something in common. Kym insisted that we leave with at least one phone number to check up on each other and make sure we are continuing to be Divas. I thought that was a wonderful idea and left with two contact information. I also encouraged a sista to join me at Bennett Institute when she expressed her desire to pursue makeup artistry.
I heard that she holds this seminar once a month or bi-monthly. So Ladies if you live in the Washington,DC Metropolitan area then please look into having this wonderful experience of becoming The Diva Next Door!
