Tears were falling from his gorgeous eyes, creating the seemingly endless streams of pain and sadness. The gun was pressed to the side of his head, and his lips parted as a few shaky sobs escaped them.
“Don't-” Alex called. A bang, and the love of his life was dead on the floor.
“No!” He sat up, and his eyes shot open. Someone had turned the light off, and the darkness seemed to press against Alex's eyes. He started shaking, and whispering his lovers name.
“Jack?” His voice barely audible, even in the silence.
“Jack?” he coughed, the loud noise startling him. The shadows seemed to creep closer to him, and Alex couldn't bring himself to climb out of bed and to the light.
He'd told Jack that he had to sleep with a light on, he always had. But Jack hadn't listened, and now Alex was alone, in the dark. He kept his eyes open, willing them to focus. He could hear his heartbeat, and his mind was telling him there were other noises too. Footsteps, the re-loading of a gun. Alex shook his head, and swung his legs off the bed.
“Jack?” he called again, this time loud enough to be heard. His voice broke; an obvious sign he was scared.
“Jack, please-” he froze when the door to the en-suite bathroom opened. Alex held his breath, waiting for the man to emerge from behind the door.
“Alex? I thought you were asleep,” Jack said, popping his head around the corner. Alex could just about see him, smiling as though nothing had happened. It dropped slightly, as Jack registered the look on Alex's face.
“What's wrong?” he asked, making his way carefully to the bed.
“You turned the light off,” Alex whispered back, holding Jack. Jack put his arms around Alex, and Alex's heart immediately calmed down.
“I'm so sorry. Rian must have turned them off when he left, and I just got up to use the bathroom; I didn't think twice,” Jack muttered, rocking Alex back and forth.
“Are you okay?” Jack asked after a couple of minutes.
“Yeah, it was just a bad dream,” Alex whispered, looking up. Jack smiled down at him, but there as something dark running down his cheek.
“What's that?” Alex whispered, running his finger down Jack's face, and through the trail of whatever it was running down his face. It was warm, and Jack collapsed into Alex's arms. Looking down, Alex saw the hole in the side of his head. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the gun crash to the floor. And Jack's eyes filled with tears, that started running down his face.
Alex screamed.
