“What do you want for lunch today, Josie?” I asked, looking in the cabinet.

I glanced over at her, seeing her staring at me from where she sat in her high chair. I smiled at my four-month-old daughter, watching her grin back as she kicked her feet and cooed.

“Sweet potatoes and applesauce?” I asked, grabbing the jars and a spoon before sitting down in front of her. I opened up the sweet potatoes and made a face as the aroma made its way to my nose. “Hope it tastes better than it smells.”

I set the jar on the tray of her high chair as I adjusted her bib.

“Ready for nummies?” I asked and she kicked her feet, making noises as she stared at me.

I gathered a bit of sweet potato on the spoon, bringing it to Josie’s lips. She opened her mouth, allowing the food to pass into her mouth. She made a face as it hit her tongue, instantly spitting it back out.

“Hey!” I said, chuckling and wiping it away from her chin. “You’re supposed to eat that!”

“Ba,” she said, looking at me and running her hands over the tray.

“Come on! It’s good for Josie!” I cooed, spooning some more onto the spoon. “Here.”

I brought the spoon to her mouth once again, watching her spit the food out just as she had before.

“Jo-Jo! You gotta eat your veggies!” I said, chuckling at the look she gave me. “Don’t look at me like that!”

“Ba! Mm ah ba-” she babbled and I raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah?” I asked. “You can make up excuses all you want, eventually you’re going to have to eat it.”

“Mmmba,” she replied and I shook my head.

“I don’t know what that means. Now let’s eat your lunch,” I told her, hearing her yell. “Oh stop. Look, Deedee will even try it.”

I gather a small amount on the spoon, taking it into my mouth. I turned my head away as I grimaced at the taste. It was fucking nasty.

“Mmm,” I faked, looking back at Josie. “Yummy! Now it’s time for Josie to have some!”

I tried to feed it to her again, but she spit it out, making an annoyed face at me.

“Fine. You win, brat. That stuff is disgusting anyway,” I said, standing up and screwing the lid back on it before I put it in the fridge. I sat back down, opening the applesauce. “Now I know you like this stuff.”

I took a spoonful, putting it to her lips and letting her eat it. She swallowed it happily, cooing as she smiled at me.

“Yeah, I know. You always like the fruit,” I said, rolling my eyes but smiling at how cute she was. I gave her another spoonful, cleaning up the applesauce that didn’t make it into her mouth. “You’re too much of a princess for your own good.”

“Mm,” she hummed, opening her mouth as I brought another spoonful to it.

“You’re cute,” I said, chuckling at her. “Chunker-butt.”

I heard the door open and shut, making an excited face at Josie.

“Daddy’s home,” I told her, smiling. She opened her mouth expectantly and I rolled my eyes, giving her another bite.

I watched Alex walk into the kitchen, cheeks rosy from the crisp January wind. I smiled at him as he approached us, watching him grin. He stood behind the high chair, kissing Josie’s cheek. Her eyes widened in surprise and he giggled, stepping forward so she could see him.

“Hi, baby cakes,” he said and I watched her eyes light up, smiling at him. He kissed her forehead and she squealed, causing him to laugh. “It’s nice to see you too, princess.”

He sat in my lap and I wrapped my arms around his waist, feeling him lean back. He turned his head, puckering his lips and making me smile.

“Hey, babe,” I said, leaning forward to peck his lips. I sat back, seeing him still sitting there with his eyes closed and his lips puckered. I rolled my eyes, leaning forward and kissing him again with a little more force.

“Mm, thank you,” he said, smiling and opening his eyes. “I’ve been in need of one of those all day.”

“Glad I could be of service,” I said, rolling my eyes.

“Me too. ‘Cause you give the best kisses in the world,” he said, picking up the spoon and feeding Josie. “Except for Josie’s applesauce kisses. They’re pretty wonderful too.”

I chuckled, resting my chin on his shoulder

“So what’s up? Why are you in such dire need of my magic kisses?” I asked.

“What? Can’t a guy just crave his boyfriend’s kisses when he’s not around?” he asked and I smirked.

“That’s not all I crave,” I told him, making him grin.

“I’m about to quit going to that study group,” he told me and I furrowed my eyebrows.

“Why? I thought it was really helping you,” I said and he sighed.

“It was until Brynn joined and started fucking harassing me. It sucks,” he said and I made a face.

“Why did she join?” I asked and he huffed.

“To have another reason to stalk me, I guess,” he answered, rolling his eyes. “I don’t know, she’s a fucking psycho. She constantly finds reasons to talk to me, and won’t take a hint that I want her to leave me alone.”

“God, I can’t stand her,” I said, burying my nose in his shoulder.

“Yeah, me either,” he said. “I just wish she would leave me the fuck alone and get on with her life.”

“Me too,” I said, kissing the back of his neck.

He leaned back against me, sighing. I wrapped my arms around him a little tighter, nuzzling my face into his neck. We sat peacefully for a moment before Josie let out an angry cry.

“Really?” Alex asked her, sitting up and grabbing the applesauce again. “Excuse me! I’m sorry for not shoveling food in your mouth, fatty!”

I laughed, watching hr pissed off expression change as she accepted the food happily.

“You act like we don’t feed you, but anybody who looks at that belly of yours would know that we do,” Alex told her.

“Applesauce face,” I said, wiping her chin. She made a face before letting out a cry.

“Awh! Deedee! You hurt my baby’s feelings!” Alex said, elbowing me.

“What?! You’re the one who called her fat!” I said and he looked at me appalled.

“She knows I’m kidding. You’re just mean,” he said and I rolled my eyes.

“You two are so alike already. It’s scary,” I told him and he grinned.

“That’s why she’s Daddy’s favorite girl!” he cooed, making Josie smile up at him. “Daddy love him princess!”

He blew a raspberry on her cheek, making her squeal and giggle.

I grinned, looking at Josie. Her laugh was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard in my life.

“So precious,” I said and Alex nodded.

“It melts my heart,” he answered and I hummed in agreement. “Are you done eating now, Miss Piggy?”

The baby stared up at him and he fought a smile.

“Good, ‘cause there’s none left,” he said, wiping her face off with her bib before removing it. He stood up, removing the tray from her high chair and setting it on the table. “Oh come here, my baby. I luh you soo much.”

I heard Josie coo and I smiled, throwing the empty jar of food away and walking over to the sink.

“Mm, ba,” she cooed.

“No, da. Dada,” Alex cooed back at her. “Dada.”

“Gah!” she screeched loudly and he raised an eyebrow.

“Okay then,” he said and I laughed.

“Jo-Jo,” I said, kissing her forehead. “Stop yelling.”

“Like that’s gonna stop her,” Alex said, chuckling.

“I know. She listens about as well as you do,” I said and he stuck his tongue out at me.

“I’m gonna choose to ignore you now. La la la la la,” he called out as he walked into the living room. I rolled my eyes, sticking Josie’s spoon in the dishwasher.

I sat down next to Alex on the couch, watching him hold Josie so she could stretch her legs out. She put her feet on his knees, toes curling and wiggling as she experimentally put her weight on them.

“You got a bit to go before you can stand all on your own two feet, baby girl,” Alex told her, smiling.

She moved her hand towards his face, cooing as she watched him.

“Hi, mamas,” he said, kissing her palm as she rested her hand on his nose. She smiled, removing it and looking down at him. Alex put his feet up on the table, laying Josie back on his knees and tickling her belly. She let out a small laugh, cooing and kicking her feet.

“She’s so ticklish,” I said and Alex nodded, grinning.

“I know, but her laugh is so cute,” he said, unsnapping her onesie. He took it off carefully, laying it on the table and sitting her up in her diaper. “You had applesauce all over you.”

She looked up at him curiously and he smiled.

“I don’t think you really care though, ‘cause you like to be nakey,” he said, shrugging. “But whatever, Deedee and I like to be nakey too. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

I chuckled, rolling my eyes and seeing Alex grin.

“Nope! Nothing wrong with being nakey at all!” he said, picking Josie up and blowing a big raspberry on her belly. Josie squealed loudly, letting out a belly laugh and grabbing onto Alex’s hair. He hissed, pulling away and untangling her fingers from his hair. “You gotta stop that. You’re killin’ me, Smalls.”

I laughed, watching him spread out on the couch. He rested his head in my lap, sitting the baby on his chest, hands on her back so she wouldn’t fall over.

“Family nap time?” he asked hopefully and I raised an eyebrow.

“Your daughter’s definitely not gonna go for that one,” I said, chuckling and he sighed.

“I know,” he said, making a face at Josie. “She never does.”
