Author's Note: I wrote this as if Jack and Alex had went through a break up but it doesn't have to be perceived as so.
Jack sighs heavily as he sits down on what has to be the most comfortable couch his ass has ever gotten to meet. He should be feeling happy, joyful, and all of those other feelings that come along with Christmas. But he’s not. Sure, he laughs at he jokes that he think are funny. He’s been giving hugs to everyone. He is having fun being around the people he cares about. But there is just one in particular that can make or break this holiday for him.
The past year has been a crazy roller coaster for him, and Jack is looking forward for the New Year. But before he can move one, start fresh, there is just one thing he feels he must do.
The party starts to wind down and everyone starts to leave. The host comes up to Jack and sits down next to him.
“Hey, man.”
Jack looks at his best friend and smiles slightly. “Hi.”
“Do you want to crash here tonight?”
“Sure. My house is dark and cold.”
“Rian left with Cassadee so if you want, you could sleep in his room.”
Jack half grins. “You mean I can’t cuddle with you?”
Alex shrugs. “You could. I don’t mind. It’s not like we haven’t before.”
“Bye, Alex! Bye, Jack! Merry Christmas!” Zack calls out as he gets ready to leave himself.
Jack waves and Alex yells a Christmas greeting back. The house gets quite once more and it’s now just the two of them. Alex gets up to put more logs in the fireplace as Jack reaches for his eggnog sitting on the end table. Alex sits down once more next to Jack after he dims the lights a bit. It’s a perfect silence between them as they watch the flames dance.
“Alex?” Jack inquires.
“Hmm?” Alex says.
“I still love you,” Jack says.
Alex looks over at Jack. He smiles a bit. He doesn’t say anything back, but Jack expected that reaction to some extent.
Things stay in that comfortable silence as bit more. Jack feels Alex cuddle into a bit more into his side. At one point Alex wraps his arms around the younger’s skinny waist and places his head on his shoulder. Jack reaches around and holds him back. Chimes come from the clock in the hallway, signaling midnight.
“Jack,” Alex says quietly.
Jack looks at Alex. He sees the reflection of the Christmas lights from the tree behind them in Alex’s eyes and shadows dance around on his face from the fire light changing with the flames. It makes Alex look more captivating than he is.
“Jack, I- I love you, too."
Jack smiles at that. It made his night. He gives Alex a tender kiss and they revert back to the comfortable silence, listening to the crackling of the fire.
It’s going to be a happy Christmas after all.
