A/N: So this is my first LJ post! If you don’t know who I am, you can check out my
tumblr and find out a little bit. This is super short and it isn't my best work, but I thought it was well cute, so here it is. Feedback is welcomed and appreciated!
Jack tossed and turned in his bunk, unable to get himself comfortable. He groaned and rolled over, groping around for his phone to check the time. 4 A.M. Perfect. If he wasn’t well-rested for this next show, he didn’t know what he was going to do.
They hit another one of the numerous bumps in the road and Jack squeezed his eyes shut, pulling his blanket over his face and trying to calm his breathing. He didn’t get road anxiety often, but when he did, it wasn’t pretty. He would shake and shudder all night, and he would play a terrible show the next day. He forced his eyes shut. He couldn’t let that happen again, not after how much everyone had yelled at him last time. Within good reason, however. He knew he would probably be pissed at Alex if he sang like shit for a show because he was up half the night.
Speaking of, Jack thought hopefully. Alex usually made him feel better when he did this, had a fear they were going to drive off the road and die (to put it nicely). He quietly got out of his bunk and drew back the curtain of Alex’s. The boy was sitting up in bed on his laptop, scrolling through something. He jumped when he caught sight of Jack. “Hey, you okay, babe?” he asked, turning back a corner of the covers. Cuddling in the bunks was a tight squeeze, but they did it anyway. Jack shook his head and curled up beside his boyfriend, who closed his computer and laid it at the foot of the mattress. He wrapped his arms around Jack’s waist and pulled him close, pressing a kiss to his forehead. “Scared again?”
Jack nodded, taking a fistful of Alex’s t-shirt and closing his eyes. “It’s okay, you know,” Alex tried to reassure him, rubbing circles into the small of his back. “Our driver has never once put us close to death, Jacky. He’ll keep us safe and you know that.”
“Yeah, I do,” Jack said, his voice muffled by Alex’s chest. “I just can’t help but wonder, you know?” Jack tangled their legs together and slid his arm around Alex’s back. “Do you ever feel like that?”
“Sometimes,” he said after thinking a moment, twisting his fingers in Jack’s. “I don’t really think about it all that much, though. You’re always gonna have those moments. Like, it’s raining, will we slide off the road? We’re flying on a plane in a thunderstorm, what if something happens? You just gotta stop thinking about it, sweet.” He played with Jack’s hair, and Jack smiled, because he always knew just what to say and what to do. He loved that about Alex.
“What were you doing up?”
“Reading about life on Mars,” Alex admitted without hesitation, and Jack chuckled, shaking his head.
“Remind me why I fell in love with the biggest nerd ever?” Jack asked, looking up at Alex’s face, his eyes dancing with laughter and amusement. Alex’s indignant look he was pulling seemed to melt upon Jack’s stare, and he smiled at him.
“I’m just irresistible, darling.”
Like Jack could argue with that.
