Author's Notes: So this is my first post on LJ and I think I did the format and cut right? I really hope I did because damn this website is confusing.
Jack really didn't mind nights like these as much as Alex though he did.
The smaller boy would show up at Jack's doorstep, red-rimmed eyes and sniffling. Jack would sigh, the silent agreement not to talk about it, and pull Alex into the house. Sometimes they would just sit there, Jack's arms wrapped protectively around Alex while Alex sobbed and shook. Sometimes they were both silent, Alex following Jack to his room to change clothes. Either way, Jack didn't mind as much as Alex thought he did.
He never minded. May and Joe have learned to stay away from Alex on nights like these. Everyone in the Barakat household knew that Jack was the only one Alex would talk to. They would sit in the younger boy's room, on the bed, and talk. Sometimes Alex would yell, but never Jack. Jack only sat, and listened, and comforted. Jack didn't mind getting yelled at, because he knew he wasn't the one Alex was mad at.
Alex was a special boy stuck in a dull place. He had dull parents that had a dull plan for him, stuck in a dull school with dull people. Sometimes Alex felt like him and Jack were the only ones with passion in this town; like they were the only ones who wanted to get out and make something out of their lives. And on nights like these, he wondered if he was the only one who cared about his own happiness.
Nights like these were the nights Alex got in fights with his parents. Fights about where he was going once he graduated high school, fights about his future and colleges, fights about the band. It seemed like lately every night was a night like this. Alex couldn't stand his parents - he was ready to hit the road the second the band graduated and never look back. Alex was thankful for Jack. He was Alex's rock, wrapping his arms around the older boy and just listening. Rocking back and forth with him when he started sobbing uncontrollably again, and kissing his head softly. Jack didn't mind.
He never minded. Sometimes they'd sit there in perfect silence. Sometimes, he'd break the silence with a statement like "I hate this town," or "I can't wait to get out of here". Jack would let him go on about how famous they'd be someday. He couldn't stop the other boy. His dad, though he tries, couldn't beat the dreams out of him. Alex was stuck in the future, trying to forget the present like it's already the past. But Jack guesses that's what he loves about him. Even if the Baltimore sky possessed no stars, Jack didn't mind. He had his own, right there in his arms.
And that's why Jack didn't mind nights like these.
