I picked up my phone, scrolling through my contacts until I found Alex’s name. I called him, listening to his voicemail for the fourth time today.

“Alex,” I said, sighing and running my fingers through my greasy bangs, “I know you don’t wanna talk to me, and I don’t really blame you. I was an asshole yesterday and I just... I just wanna talk to you, alright? I made a mistake.”

I ended the call, furrowing my eyebrows and sighing. I ran my hand over my face, tossing my phone down next to me and laying back on my bed.

I watched my ceiling fan spin for a few minutes before I picked my phone up. I opened up my twitter, scrolling through all the random bullshit. There was nothing interesting going on, so I closed it. I opened my pictures, smiling at the last one Alex and I had taken together. I enlarged it, biting my lip. I missed him. I missed hanging out with him and laughing. I felt like it had been months since we actually talked, probably for the last month and a half all we did was fight. I wanted my Alex back.

I set my phone back down, standing up so I could go to the bathroom. As I settled my hand on the doorknob I heard my phone ring. I spun around quickly, picking it up off my bed and seeing that Rian was calling. My heart sank a little but I still answered, putting the phone back to my ear.

“Hello,” I answered, sitting on my bed and picking at the blanket. “Is Alex okay? He hasn’t been answering my calls.”

“Alex left, Jack,” Rian said, and I could hear the sadness in his voice. “He’s not answering your calls because he’s still on the plane.”

“Why are you still trying to convince me he left? I know he didn’t leave. He wouldn’t move away from us,” I said and I heard Rian scoff.

“He left, Jack. I dropped him off at the airport at seven this morning. I really don’t he would force himself through airport security just to fake you out,” he stated and I furrowed my brow.

“I-I don’t believe you,” I said, shaking my head.

“I’m sorry, Jack, but he left,” Rian said.

I hung up the phone, shaking my head and tossing my phone onto the bed. I know he didn’t leave. He couldn’t just up and leave his life like that. His family and friends were here. His life was here.

I grabbed a pair of shorts, yanking them on and running my hands through my messy hair. I put my phone in my pocket, walking quickly down the stairs and seeing my mom in the kitchen. She looked over at me as I grabbed my keys from the key rack, raising an eyebrow.

“Where are you going, Jack?” she questioned.

“I have to go talk to Alex,” I answered and she gave me a confused look.

“Isobel told me he was leaving for California this morning,” she said and I cringed.

“No he didn’t,” I said, growing irritated.

“Oh,” she said, sadness growing on her features. “Honey, why don’t you sit down. We can talk about this. I know it’s hard to say goodbye, he’s your best fri-”

“I’m not saying goodbye!” I exclaimed, shoving my feet into my shoes. “He’s not going anywhere!”

“Sweetheart,” she said and I moved towards the door.

“I’ll be back later, mom,” I said, walking outside. I unlocked my car, sliding inside and starting it up.

I drove towards his house, pressing my foot down on the pedal to get there faster. I needed to see Alex. I needed to talk to him and tell him everything I was too stupid to say before.

I parked in the driveway, seeing Rian’s car wasn’t there. I shut off my engine, getting out of the car and walking up to the door. It was unlocked so I went inside. I passed Cassadee, who was laying on the couch watching television. I went upstairs, walking to Alex’s room and opening the door.

The bed was bare, as was the dresser. My heart sunk as I looked around the room. It looked nothing like Alex’s room. It was empty.

I sat down on the mattress, looking down at my hands.

He was gone. He had really left. I couldn’t believe it at all.

“Jack,” I heard Cassadee’s soft voice say, but I didn’t look up at her. I heard her sigh, creaking the door open a little more and walking into the room. She sat on the bed next to me, reaching her hand forward and laying it over mine.

“H-he left, Cass. I-I didn’t think h-he’d actually leave,” I said quietly, feeling her thumb stroke the skin of the back of my hand.

“I know,” she said, leaning her head against my shoulder, “but he told you he was going to.”

“I didn’t get to tell him,” I said, feeling tears prick my eyes. “I’m such a fucking idiot.”

Cassadee wrapped her arms around my waist, letting me lean against her chest. She stroked my hair gently, kissing my temple.

“He hates me because I’m so fucking stupid,” I mumbled and she shook her head.

“He doesn’t hate you, Jack,” she said, continuing to pet my hair.

“I love him,” I cried, feeling her squeeze me tighter.

“I know,” she whispered. “He loves you too. You should have told him.”

“I was scared,” I answered.

“Everyone’s scared when they fall in love,” she told me, using my t-shirt to wipe my nose.

“Where did he go?” I asked and she bit her lip.

“I don’t know, Jack,” she answered.

“I need to find him,” I said, “I need to win him back.”

The end.

Oh boy!
I never imagined this story would be as popular as it is.
When it was first started, I absolutely loved the idea, but I had no idea it would unravel into something so great. Especially since I had a bump in the road when my co-author quit on me mid-story. But I knew I couldn't quit on you guys so I sucked it up and kept going, and I'm so glad I did! You guys are incredible and I can't wait to dive into the sequel with all of you and give you all the Jalex action you've been craving!
Thank you for being so amazing! I love you all <3
