A/N: At the bottom :)

"Hey, aren't you that boy that's always listening to 'strange' music, as the other's would say and the swot that knows just about every word in our French-class?"
That was how their first conversation had started. Jack talking to Alex about what he'd heard from other's. Just because he'd always wanted to talk to him and never knew what to say. "Erm.... yes, that would be me. I don't know anything about you though..." "Oops, sorry. I'm Jack. Jack Barakat." "Alex Gaskarth." "Great."
And just like that, they started talking. And talking soon led to hanging out in their free-time.

"Hey Alex, what is 'waterfall' in French?" Jack asked absentmindedly. "Cascade." "Thanks man.." "Great to know you only like me for my awesome French-knowledge." "You know I love you." Both boys broke into laughter. Well, so much for getting homework done.
Those joking conversations had always been the best thing about their friendship.

But there was more to it. They could trust each other. At least that's what Jack thought back then.
"You know, sometimes it's getting really annoying. My parents always fighting about something, screaming and never even noticing that I'm even in the room. And it's like... I don't know, I'm never good enough."

Those had been the exact words Alex had said to him after once again showing up at his door in the middle of the night. If only Jack had known the meaning behind those defeated-sounding words earlier. Maybe he could have helped.
But on the other side... Alex had always been so cheerful, no matter what.

"But everybody's gone and I've been here for too long to face this on my own, well I guess this is growing up!" Alex sang, dancing around the flat like a maniac, laughing at his best friend. Jack chuckled. Usually he was the childish one but some days Alex could be just the same. They would do the craziest things together. His thoughts were interrupted by a squealing sound that was probably supposed to be a question. "Heey Jacky... what do you think about going to the park?" "But it's already so dark outside.." "Who cares? It's still warm! Pretty please?" There was no way that Jack could resist those puppy eyes. Sure, he wasn't any worse at pulling that trick but seriously, how could he ever resist Alex?

That night, had also been the night of their first kiss. Thinking about it now Jack wouldn't even be able to say who had initiated it. Suddenly, their lips were meeting under the night sky in an empty park in Baltimore. Just two boys trying to figure out what that feeling they always had when they were with each other meant. Just two boys in love. And in that moment, Jack couldn't even imagine the slightest how wrong he was that now, everything was going to be perfect. That nothing could go wrong anymore. Boy, was he wrong.
But first, they had the time of their lives together.  All those nights they just spent watching movies and cuddling or playing video-games will always be on Jack's mind. All kisses they stole when no one was watching and all those glances, filled with so much love would always be with the younger of the two, no matter where he goes.
But of course, like everything in life, it had to end.
It started slowly. Alex began to change. First, Jack didn't even notice but after a while it got so obvious, he just couldn't miss it. But he didn't think about it. He didn't think about it when once again his boyfriend zoned out during a conversation or when he told him he had fallen down again. He bought his excuses without thinking twice. He didn't think anything was wrong.
When he found out the terrible news he was crushed.  He didn't eat or sleep for days. He didn't cry, though. He just sat in his room, alone, staring out the window with a blank look on his face. There was no Jack Barakat anymore. There was just his shell. Alex had taken the real Jack with him the day he decided that he couldn't go on living this life anymore.
And this led Jack to where he is now. Standing on the small landing at the lake he and Alex went to so often. It was the last time Jack would ever come here. He had come here so often after Alex's death but this time, was to say goodbye. He will never return again.

A/N: Okay, so this just popped into my head a few minutes ago, I hope you like it. Comments are always appreciated (I would love you forever :3)
