This sounds really stupid, but I've been reading this lately and last night I had a dream that was a cross between this and LOST. It was pretty much this but if you were caught you were put in the creepy brainwashing room from LOST.
I just wanted to apologise for never commenting because I realised I must like it even more than I thought I did if I end up dreaming about it.
