He wonders sometimes if he should’ve stayed away, way back then. If he should’ve left her to her fossils and artifacts, parsing stories of the living from the remains of the dead. If he should’ve left her reconstructing the world, instead of cataloging all the ways it’s falling apart.
"YOU MAKE NO PROMISES FOR THE QUALITY OF THIS FIC"? Dude. Dude. This simultaneously broke my heart (Booth!) and made me ecstatically happy (BRENNAN!). Just - everything. This is everything that I want this year to be, and that spoiler, and just- I- EVERYTHING.
I really think this is the scenario I most want them to use. I can really see this dig being the thing that spurs Brennan forward, and I like the idea of her coming back ready for something and Booth having tried his best to move on. I know they're going to still drag it out, and as much as it's going to be artificial drama (it is Bones, after all), I think this is a situation I'd trust Emily and David to play truly.
OH, AND: THANK YOU, MAN. I have only written Bonesfic once before (Angela/Sweets, LOL, what is my mind?) and haven't written much of anything in a long while, so I'm so excited to hear that you liked it.
And so is this. I can't believe you were unsure about this. I especially love the dynamic between Booth and Jen, and Brennan's response to the big find. You're obviously very articulate, which you definitely use to the best of your ability.
Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! I really like the idea of Brennan being changed by her time in Indonesia, having her come to some kind of peace with herself and her science and the ways she can be happy.
Also, your icon contains Marshall Mann. I think. Maybe it's just Fred Weller, but either way: YESSSSS.
Um, yes. Yes. It is the glorious Marshall Mann. I got the icon at the lovely mary_marshall community (which you should totally check out if you haven't already *ahem*).
What are you talking about, Willis? This is fantastic.
I love that Brennan is so unsure about everything: about her work with Booth, about why she left, about her and Booth in general, about the dig, but then a simple discovery, a connection can turn her outlook around. I think that's totally realistic.
The letter-writing kind of snuck up on me, so I'm glad you liked it. I am seriously in love with this show right now. Like, to the point where I'm seriously considering pulling out my DVDs and rewatching all of it before September 23 gets here. I NEED IT ALL IN MY HEART AND MY HEART RIGHT NOW IT IS SO GOOD.
...
Sorry I just went crazy. Thanks for reading and commenting!
