I am surprised she is only on Tramadol, which is just a pain reliever and not an anti-inflammatory (since she has inflamation).

Is it possible to call and ask the vet if there is a different, maybe easier, medication to give? I know there are some liquid pain relievers that don't taste bad and are easy to administer.

Good luck with her knees. It can be so frustrating when you aren't entirely sure what is wrong with your dog and it is a "wait and see" game. My dog has an old injury to his foot (it happened as a young puppy before we got him), and it has caused him some pretty severe off-and-on arthritis/pain, and other than amputation of that leg there is nothing that can surgically be done. It's frustrating because it has been a "try this pain reliever and limited activity for 2 weeks" and "try this one for four." Thankfully he is much better now and can be maintained with only occasional medication on bad days, but it's so frustrating knowing the only other option is a leg amputation (which I am not interested in doing to a 7 year old large breed dog)!

Good luck!

Oh, she's also on Previcox, but that pill isn't as hard for her to take. It's the Tramadol that makes her gag like it's just awful.

I've been trying to call the vet. They called me back during teaching hours and don't seem to EVER be available when I am :P But I'll keep trying!

Ugh, that's exactly how it feels. I'm so sorry about your pup :( I'm so afraid that it'll just be this waiting game with my YOUNG, ACTIVE dog and she'll waste years of her life that she deserves to be fetching. One of my main drives in making the financial sacrifice and the time/energy sacrifice for the surgery was giving her the MAXIMUM number of active fetching years I could, so this is so disheartening :(

Thank you for your help!
