Would he be as bothered by a belly band? http://www.bellybands.net/

I'd try anything at this point. Fingers crossed they're available in Australia or at least that they can be ordered internationally.

I hope it works. Carlos is lucky to be living with an owner who's so understanding that it's darn hard to get old. He's a beautiful dog too! What breed is he?

Have you tried corn silk? I've read about it and tried it, and it does help with incontinence. It's cheap, it comes in capsules (that can be opened and the powder put on food) or drops, and it's available via Amazon or any health food store. I've had several people try it and swear by it.

Is he actually incontinent (leaking urine) or does he just have to go out more often and can't hold it? If he's leaking, there is a medication that can help tighten things up. If it's that he just can't hold it as long, you could try pee pads if there's an area he's hitting frequently, or the belly band like others have said.

The old dog I had just couldn't hold it, so he wore (homemade) belly bands with the largest size (human) bladder control pad in it that I could buy. An awkward purchase at the store (they're for my dog, no, really), but it helped contain the mess.

I think it's a bit of both. I noticed when I walk him and he goes that sometimes he walk off while still peeing like he's not aware that he's still peeing.

My vet prescribed medication for one of my female 'leaky' dog, and it worked really well. I can't remember what it was, though, sorry. You also might want to have a vet checkup anyway, as my boy dog had a leaking problem, and he had a bladder infection.

My parents' dog takes a vet-prescribed med, too; it's called Proin.

It does seem to happen only overnight but restricting his water intake could be tricky as it's Summer in Australia.

My dogs are in my bedroom at night, so they have no access to water during the night and they do just fine (even during the summer). As long as he's in the house, he should be fine! Restricting his water would definitely help, along with many of the other suggestions that you can do along with this one!
