There is something totally amazing about getting a shiny new ATD fic as a birthday present, so I'm pretty sure that Z is going to have a wonderful birthday, and I hope that she knows that there are many, many people who are ever-grateful to her for keeping you on the straight-and-narrow with respect to the regular production of new episodes in House-and-Cuddy-Deny-Their-Feelings-For-Each-Other.

This is just, as always, so much fun - the idea that Cuddy was just pranking House, but that she pulled it off so well that he was overwhelmed with guilt, 'stepping up' to take responsibility for his actions...or, as Wilson might suggest, using the crisis to letting himself do what he really has been wanting to do all along.

I was amused by the sly nod to Lydia's line in "Broken" - "You were actually kind of...perfect", and thought it was appropriate that this was coming out of Cuddy's mouth, rather than that of Cuddy's stand-in.

And I always feel so much for them when the issue of pregnancy comes up. Cuddy wants a baby so badly; she wants it with House. House wants a family life so badly; he wants it with Cuddy. But they are both so scared of it not working out, and they are so unable to imagine how they would cope if their dream turned to dust, that they are unable to take the plunge. And despite Cuddy's snorts, there's an underlying tenderness in the way in which they address the issues between them: Cuddy is effectively saying to House 'this is what I want, and I want it with you, and are you willing to make the effort' and House is admitting that, yes, he wants that and I will.

...But I think you need a Chapter 2! You posted this in time for the START of her birthday in her native land, but it will STILL be her birthday in Hawaii for a good many hours ;-)
