Too Good for this world, Too Pure: Errant

1.
Character Summary: Gwaine from Merlin deserves his own show because he’s an intriguing, charismatic character who was severely underutilized in the show. When he was introduced, he was a wandering ne’er-do-well who appeared to have no visible means of support. It was hinted at that he either made his way through gambling or selling his sword-possibly a bit of both and perhaps even some shadier means now and then. However, Gwaine is no anti-hero. He showed his mettle in his very first appearance on Merlin, by coming to the assistance of an imperiled tavern-keep and the only man who stood up for her against a band of vicious thugs. Later in that same episode he faced down those same thugs again, this time while they were disguised as noblemen and got himself banished from Camelot for his pains. He returned later that season to aid the main characters once again, and returned permanently by the end of the season to join the forces that gathered round King Arthur, and became one of the founding members of the Knights of the Round Table. Title: Errant: The Adventures of Sir Gwaine
New Show Summary: The new show would feature Gwaine in his travels during his banishment from Camelot. He wanders town to town around four of the Five Kingdoms getting himself into and out of scrapes wherever he goes, helping people along the way (in between gambling, drinking and debauchery). He won’t have any constant companions as he had truthfully told Merlin that he was the only friend he’d got. Merlin will (very) occasionally show up either to help him out of a bind or to ask for his assistance. It will turn out that after their adventure in the Perilous Lands, Merlin and Gwaine share a bond that the sorcerer can sense whenever he needs to locate Gwaine, or whenever Gwaine is in beyond-dire straits. While he doesn’t have a traveling companion, he will make friends (and enemies) along the way and by the time he returns to Camelot, Merlin will no longer be his only friend (but will always remain his closest). So there would be lots of one-or-two episode characters and a few recurring characters-probably tavern & inn-keepers and the occasional fellow-swashbuckler! (181 words)

Theme Song: Hero’s Journey by BrunuhVille

Episode 1: Departure Gwaine leaves Camelot following his banishment and upon entering Mercia seeks out the closest tavern to wet his whistle and contemplate his recent adventures. However, no sooner is he settled in a quiet corner with a tankard in his fist when trouble comes calling in the form of a damsel in distress. Puzzled as to why no one else will step forward to help the lovely lass, Gwaine readily volunteers his aid. However, he soon finds that not all is as it seems, and he’s faced with a situation he is ill-equipped to handle.
Episode 2: Arriving at an inn, Gwaine happens upon a retired knight who once knew his father. Since he has no set itinerary, Gwaine agrees to accompany the elderly knight as his bodyguard unaware of just what it is the old man fears to encounter on the road.

Recurring Character: Lady Genevieve (Genny) The daughter of a minor noble, Gwaine first encounters Lady Genny in episode one when she duplicitously seeks his aid to rid herself of an “vile knave’s pursuit.” As it turns out, the man was pursuing her to recover precious family heirlooms she’d stolen from him! Lady Genny may be noble by birth but, like Gwaine, she is a penniless drifter who makes her way by using her sweet appearance to con people. She will appear from time to time in the series, and generally plagues and trips Gwaine up. Not truly evil, nor even completely without morals, Genny is a bit of a rogue but underneath lurks a hidden heart of gold.
