Precious Ramotswe, a traditionally-built Motswana woman, divorces her abusive husband despite the gossip and scorn of her neighbors and friends. After her father's death, she sells their cows in order to move to the capital city of Gaborone. She becomes the first woman private investigator in Botswana. She soon hires Grace Makutsi, the fastest-typing secretary in all of Gaborone.
Precious is a modern woman who also believes in the traditional values of Africa and Botswana. Though she may get grief for her full-figure, she sees nothing wrong with her physique.
Her father instilled in Precious a great love of her country. Motivated to make Botswana a better place and to help others, she takes on whatever case comes her way. She encounters many dangerous and risky obstacles in the course of her investigations. She eventually succeeds based on her intelligence, courage and instinct.
