And I'm glad to know my patriotism is too. Because I really thought I'd lost it. My opinion of America has spiraled continually downward in the past year. I don't like our government. I don't like what we're doing. I don't like what we've become. But last night I went to go see the Pops Goes the Fourth dress rehursal concert at the Esplinade. And of course it opened with "The Star-Spangled Banner". The hatchshell looked so pretty all lit up and forth from it came beautiful music that floated over a sea of people of all shapes, sizes, and colors, all baring their heads and placing their right hands over their hearts and singing high and low, in and out of tune, the well used but never worn out words of the national anthem. The sky was periwinkle, the clouds were pink, the setting sun was orange, and the flag waving against it was red, white, and blue. I almost cried. And I was glad to know that as frusterated as I am with the country I live in, there is still a tiny part of me that can feel proud to be American.
