Ai carumba.
Yes, so, my birthday came and went and it was relatively.. well, it was alright. Except! The day before, I had to venture to my grandparents house (because, honestly. we always have to go there. they adore me or something absurd like that.) and it wasn't pleasant. Things went fine until after lunch, when some distant relatives of mine that I didn't even know about (o_O) showed up and this included a couple of airhead teenage girls that really drove me nuts. For one: they were stalking me. I got out of talking to them at first by calling hailey and exploring the yard and looking at pretty black horses because my grandparents entirely live on a farm with a garden and everything. However, my grandmother was distressed and wanted me to come inside and socialize &so i was made to sit and listen to boring conversation for hours upon end. Eventually, I left the room under the pretense that I was going to the bathroom and did not go back. Just read Children of the Mind until the crazy 'distant relatives' left. Then I finally got to open my gifts from my grandparents and I recieved:
*The Lovely Bones: A Novel
*Shadow of the Hegemon
*His Dark Materials Trilogy
*Treasure Planet DVD
*Atlantis: Miro's Return (o_O. I later exchanged this for the Metal-case re-enhanced edition of T2: Terminator)
*Lots of money
And also a $50 gift certificate to
Amazon from my Aunt and Uncle who were sadly not in attendance as they were busy touring the countryside roadtrip style. (jealousy!)
Last week I was shipped off to Choral Camp which was.. great. Well, actually, it was a lot of hard work. Singing for hours and hours upon end. (and I do mean hours. i was so tired i could hardly stand.) They worked us from 7 am to 11 pm every day for 4 days. But I got better acquainted with some of the people that I will be in varsity choir with next year, so that's happy! The music isn't all that tough rhythmically and notewise, however, they really look for details at All-State tryouts and so you've got to have it mastered perfectly which makes me slightly (read: alot) nervous. Wednesday evening (the 16th) they had a dance. Lmao.. yes. A DANCE. Oh, I almost needed to call poison control from stupidity overdose. But actually, it was sortof fun. At first I was just hanging off to the side, talking animatedly with Holly and Matt. But Elizabeth wouldn't have it, and she literally dragged me onto the dance floor and then I was decidedly gangbanged by a horde of girls from my school. It was interesting, to say the least. I left as soon as I could, and returned to talk with Holly and Matt. Later, I went to go get a drink and then ended up talking with Pam and Chris, but I wandered off, after being bored and no sooner than I had taken two steps out of the circle than some girls came up and asked me to dance with their friend. "She's really cute! We're mad at her because we did her hair and makeup and made her look all pretty and all she's doing is sitting on the bench and not dancing with anyone." So I was like, well, I'm feeling alright. In the mood to be charitable. If dancing with a girl would make her happy, then, why not? So I said yes. And I did. (She wasn't very cute, mind you. Not my pick of the litter, to say the least.) But we danced fast and I had one slow dance with her, and then we parted ways. I returned to Pam and Chris who had been joined by Holly and Matt and we continued chatting inanely. Then some old skool song came on and Holly was like, "hey! decent music! finally!" and she dragged Matt off to dance. (very unwillingly, i might add.) i decided to join them, because, well, here we were. a bunch of people who don't really like to dance. dancing. It was fun, except then I turned to look over my shoulder to see where the other people from my school were and immediately was overtaken by some Indian-looking girl who started freaking all over me and I was like, whoa now! And I just danced with her a little bit until the song ended and she moved on to the next guy. (Slut.) I returned to my group and then ended up having a little 1 on 2 session with Kelsey and Leslie (woo! hot chicks. at last.) and we danced til we were red in the face. it continued like that for the rest of the night, and at the end of it, i was feeling very satisfied because I recieved the comment of "you've got some moves!" many many times, by several different people. Woo! *can dance*. Anyway, the rest of camp was generally uneventful except that it should be denoted that (considering I was at Southwest Texas University) dorm food is absolutely awful. It's just like the movies where you can't even tell what anything is so you're like "I'll have some of the yellow. Thanks."
Immediately after camp ended (with a concert of all the music we had been working on) my parents took me to Inks Lake to camp for real. Oh, it was beautiful. I hadn't really appreciated camping as much until this time. Sunsets on the lake, clear skies at night-- you could actually see the stars!, wind rustling through you hair and animal noises all around. Wild ducks and deer would come right up to you and beg for food. I played Ender and went and paddled around on the lake all day on an inflatable raft &got really tanned. (+only slightly sunburned.) There was even one point at which my mother was driving around at night and I laid sprawled out in the back of the pickup truck looking up at the night sky and saw a shooting star. I made a wish. And then I sang Konstantine to myself until the ride ended. It was tres beautiful and I really do hope everyone gets to experience camping at least once in their lives.
This week has been uneventful, however, for which I am much thankful. I'm not one for doing a whole lot on my summer vacation. Granted, I'm leaving again Tuesday morning early to go to San Antonio for Latin Nationals Competition. (AKA: Future Pedophiles of America Convention.) I'm only going because 1) it's absolutely free. the school board is paying my trip, which amounts to about $500, i believe, and so hey. why not? 2) we get to play tourist and go to Fiesta Texas and other such places for free and.. well, there's really no good reason to pass up an opportunity like that. Plus, I'll be among friends and so we can just laugh and point at all the extremely creepy people that will be in attendance. I'm considering taking a camera in order to get snapshots of these people, because really. It's ridiculous, the creepiness which exudes from them. I was absolutely mortified at state competition. Pocket protectors, suspenders, glasses held together with tape. The whole nine yards. Terrible (+ly amusing), really.
For those of you wondering:
Yes, I have disappeared and deleted all my journals as of July 9th. Yes, I randomly came back to this one after I haven't written a thing in it since December 8th, 2002. Yes, I am completely justified to doing so because 1) i'm writing for myself so it really doesn't matter if i'm warped in the sense that i change journals constantly 2) i never said goodbye in the first place, so you can't fully say that I left. (though, grace has already argued with me on this. i stand by my logic.)
Also: No, I'm not reopening other journals, at this time. No, I'm not going to explain my absence. No, I do not have a 7 foot pen... just, no.
Now, one last thought: I do hope you didn't read all of that. The end.
