Potpourri and musings on love

Love love love. Love is in the air. I will always love you. Whatever words I say, I will always love you. Oh l'amour.

In diagnostic radiology, I am both blessed and cursed to deal with most of the patients in the hospital. Most patients will receive some form of imaging and I am part of the group that interprets the studies.

Not only do I get to see the most rewarding and life reaffirming cases in the hospital, but the also horrible and depressing cases - cases that remind me that "modern" medicine can do a lot, but ultimately we are still in the Dark Ages.

One of the subfields in which radiologists have a great deal of patient care is mammography. We read the mammograms, ultrasound the patients, and perform a variety of different biopsies and interventions.

That being said, breast cancer is frighteningly common. It is a disease in which sometimes we can completely cure a patient and rejoice in our prowess. Other times, the disease refuses to read the text book and despite all of our fantastic advances wins out.

This is my experience with breast cancer, but I am sure everyone reading this has had some glimpse of the disease. To learn more about breast cancer and what people are doing to rally against it, check out:

The 3 Day

I just saw a commercial with this event on it and I was moved by the family and friends that are coming together for their loved ones. I hope we all have people like that in our lives that would do the same for us.

One husband of a survivor said, "I am here because she is my heart and my soul."

On a selfish note, Im afraid that I will never find my "heart and soul" and that I will never be that for someone else. So if you have found yours, go give them a hug and tell them that you love them.
