the echoes resonate the halls
to fill the youthful ears
with whispers, laughs, and warm dissent
and terror for the slight of hand
they teach what we're supposed to know
but leave a mark we can't erase
for better but sometimes for worse
we take a lesson, chart a course
recant of foolish, simple ways
learn to forget and complicate
forgive the beauty in the world
embrace the clocks hand like a saint
we pray and pray to stubborn time
watch the sun fall, watch it rise
take us somewhere we don't know
we're tired now, so take us home
