We had a meeting with Caroline and Christina, the clients we like, lol. We were expecting it to be a good one, and once again it was - it really is a pleasure to meet with these people, a huge contrast with the other clients we've had so far. They've prepared almost all of the content for the site, and considered the design samples we sent them and had plenty of things to say about both and what they liked and disliked from either. We'll get to work on the final design very soon, and we 'formally' agreed to be finished early-mid January, but we should be done a while before that. Christina suggested perhaps we should ask Darius for a referral-for-commission agreement. He's already recommended us to a few people, but she may be right; with an incentive he may be able to help us more. I agree with what she said about it shows goodwill, too.
We went up to Cali to have some pizza afterwards, but Darius wasn't there and when I finally got through to his phone he said he was busy and was at the office (which is hard for me to get to without a car), so I just went home. Means I still don't have my laptop power back, which is slightly annoying, but my fault for leaving it.
Yesterday Graham and I went into Poole. Graham had the intention of doing some shopping, but after looking in just two shops, the desire to satisfy hunger won, and we ended up in The Quay. I was wondering whether it was the right choice considering the last two times we've been they've disappointed me, but this time I have to say they got everything right. I got exactly what I asked for, and it was nice food.
Then we tried to make our way back to the bus station, but since there was no hurry we decided to go a different way. We don't really know Poole that well, and so ended up wandering through streets in unknown residential areas, but as usual we found our way to where we're going. I think we'd probably find our way from anywhere to anywhere eventually. Got the bus up to Sea View and walked down the hill to Mr. Kyp's; there were three bands playing one after another, all of which sounded fairly promising. The first one,
Ten To Never we remember mainly because they had an excellent drummer - he really was great, but the rest of the band couldn't quite match his skill. They were good, though. The second band,
Zero Point Field were even better, and we were actually pretty annoyed that the audience weren't appreciating them. The were very few people there, and most of them were there to see the third band,
Fevertree. Not sure why, because they were the worst of the three. Not bad, I thought, although it seems neither Graham nor his parents agree with me, but they certainly weren't as good as the other two. We didn't even stay for their whole performance.
It's been a... thoughtful, and actually quite difficult time for me the last couple of days, but only in my head. It's just a coincidental series of events that cause it. First Shanna had been gone for quite a few days, but when she did come back I wasn't expecting her, and I'd actually started to get used to her not being there. Then she was back for two days, and well, you could say I pretty much ignored her both nights. Not literally of course, but not really making any effort to say anything. It didn't feel good, but I just didn't want to talk, because I somehow felt she shouldn't be there. Then immediately after those two nights, I lost and found my ring the next two mornings, and I know now it was something to do with my dreaming. It's personal, but I remembered a few small fragments. Then Shanna left
a comment with something similar.
After that, I just began to miss her a lot, and the day in Poole was just too many things for me. I don't see Poole very much, so it was easy for it to become associated with her visit; it's not common enough that I can think of it as something I typically do alone, because it's not. As well as that, there's only really one way to get there and back unless someone takes us or we get a Taxi, and that's the Wilts & Dorset busses, specifically the 161. Which happens to only stop in one place near my house, so it was the same stop we used. And the route it takes up New Road is quite significant to me too, because of the first night we walked back that way. And then we went to The Quay, which we took Shanna to. Just before we left, I noticed they sold toasted cheese and marmite baguettes, which was the single thing I was left holding at Gatwick airport when Shanna left to take her plane home. Then there was the bus journey up to Sea View - I happened to make my way to sit at the back, which is where we sat on the way home. The final thing you might find strange, but it was a model of a mermaid in The Bemuda Triangle (a pub next to Kyp's). That was the one too many, and the rest of the evening was very, very lonely. I did try and enjoy the music, and I did, kind of, but it was a weird experience. The small crowd didn't help, because we went right to the front as usual. I got tired of standing after a while and sat on the floor in the centre, and could have believed I was completely alone with the band.
The dreams and such do bother me a little. Not for the more obvious reasons, it's more subtle than that; I'd be worried if I believed them for what they showed. I do think there's something I need to do, though.
Small note, my monitor came. I put it straight up to it's highest resolution, 2048x1536, and OMFG the space. Everything is so tiny, it's even too small for me, and I usually love pushing for higher and higher resolutions. I've dropped down to 1600x1200 for now, which on this 19" is comparable to 1280x1024 on 17", which is what I had before. I'll work my way up to the middle step, 1920x1440, but might end up staying there; not sure if I'll decide to use it's maximum or not. 'tis very nice though.
Don't know what's happening tomorrow, but right now, I don't really care.
