I'm here with nothing to say again, so... hello. I just update the previous entry, which isn't something I normally do, but it applied very much to that one so I felt it was better to edit than to have a new post. I spent last night writing a report system for version Tux-know-what of the Cali admin site, because we thought we'd be having a meeting with Darius today. He was only available late though, and Graham was working in the evening, and I won't really have a clue where to take it on my own, so that got postponed. Tomorrow, we're meeting his sister. Here comes something rare...
Optimism! I really think, that this time, it'll go right. It really needs to. We've been so unlucky with the clients we've had so far, but this one sounds like she's... efficient, prepared. Knows what she wants, and will ask for it in the beginning, not go 'omg what about adding this?' every time we think we're done. We'll make the contract clearer, and I'm about to write an extremely clear guide on how the process will go, explain it to her, and make sure we all understand and agree. It sounds like a decent sized project too, so we're thinking ~£1,000. Probably under, but not too much - there's no point in keep accepting to do small jobs for the sake of getting the job. Okay, we don't want to lost the work, but too low and it's just not worth it; we have to be more forceful. I'm confident, though.
So, we're going to meet her tomorrow morning, and are planning to give a small demonstration of some of our work, including one operational admin system so she can see how our sites are managed, then invite her to descrive what she wants, and finally explain our working process, and make an estimate at time and cost.
I should get on with that document really. I'm annoyed that things keep happening and I've not been able to write any of my diary, or another piece of writing I've been planning to get done for a while... but I'll find the time somewhere. I spent most of today sorting out my laptop. Before I went away, I replaced Linux with Windows ME in frustration, just wanting something quick and simple that I could use whilst I was gone - but have since regretted the decision, and reverted back to Windows 2000. Tux, I am learning to appreciate it. Oh I complain constantly whilst using it, but honestly... nothing else has ever been so good to me as Windows 2000. I might not be anything special, but it's easy and reliable, works like I expect it to, and generally just keeps out of my way and lets me get on - something I now know is extremely rare.
Finally it's sorted though, and set up with Apache 2, PHP 5, and MySQL 4.1 for the demonstrations tomorrow, and all the other stuff I use like Office and Yahoo Messenger for myself.
Oh yeah, one more thing - Semisonic. I like Semisonic. I knew that before, but now I have three albums and I'm more sure of it. They're not... spectacular, but once again, all 'good enough' with the odd special one, and that makes them worthy. I think they're like Eve 6... and before anyone (like Crystal :-P) says they don't sound anything like Eve 6, I know they don't, but there's something similar in the songs that I like about them. Particularly I'm thinking of the track that made me want to get more of them, 'Bed'. Very Eve 6-ish.
Anyway, I'm going to get on with what I should be doing. Byes.
Please! Tell the figs to leave me alone! ...
music,
