well ladies and gents, i have embarked on what many would call academic suicide. im taking 12 hours. on semesters thats nothing...on quarters thats the equivalent to 18 hours on semesters. why im i embarking on such a hopless journey you ask? well i was stupid and didnt do college stuff in high school so if i want to graduate in 4 years i have to!
so my schedule is college algebra (not too bad), english (gonna be a pain in my butt but not too much homework), psychology (uh ohhhhh writing out the freaking wazoo), and finally psychology (lots of writing woohoo terms, studying, reading, etc). seeing as my last quarter consisted of 8 hours (those being english, new testament, and freshman year experience) this quarter is ummmm deadly? not only do i have more hours, but each and every one of my classes is more difficult than any one class i took last quarter. so its a double whammy here. history i expected to be a blowoff, but it will probably require more work than any of my other classes. college algebra is my only "blowoff" since most of it will be review due to the fact i took precal in high school. nonetheless, it is still tougher than my hardest course from last quarter (english).
needless to say, i will be pushing myself. i havent had to push myself since freshman year of high school heh. as a sidenote, i dropped every honors class but math after freshman year because of that reason (i wanted to be lazy). sooo now its like well umm wakeup call. and im scared about english...more than 5 major grammatical errors (pronoun/antecedent, comma/semicolon misusage, subject/verb agreement, tense, second person usage, etc) automatically fails a paper. lucky me...the only grades in that class are papers. plus, the fact im not too grammar savvy doesnt lighten my spirits either heh.
thennnnn on top of that i have the band to take care of. that requires not only rehearsals and such multiple times a week, but getting music ready/learning songs at home which can take hours per song. the bands probably gonna be mad at me since i wont be learning very many new songs but hey you gotta do what you gotta do.
i guess this is one of those periods of time (10 weeks long in my case) where i will be learning how to manage time well and such. plus i will have to mega rely on God because honestly folks, you know me...im entirely incapable of this sort of thing on my own. all the torture will eventually be worth it after these 10 grueling weeks, because i will be that much closer to being the man of God i need to be.
on the bright side though, none of my professors came across as completely ridiculous...but everyone seemed fair and had the goal of helping the class learn. im especially looking forward to english (except for the times i have to write my pain-stakingly grammatically accurate papers) since my professor is one of those energetic intellectual types. hes rather eccentric, but i like it. hes OBSESSED with CS lewis, and speaks on him regularly at different churches and bookstores etc. if youd like to see his extensive list of speeches and locations, go to fc.hbu.edu/~lmarkos and scroll down a little to 2005-2006 speeches or whatever. he speaks about narnia all the time because of the upcomming movie and hes speaking all the way in florida today heh. he actually inspires me to read narnia since hes so passionate about it, but i doubt if i'll have time to this quarter heh. he actually wrote a book about CS lewis that was published and you can buy it off amazon. i didnt know about it, but he taught a course on narnia last quarter, and next quarter hes teaching a course on different films (mainly hitchcock i believe), and next year is teaching a course on LOTR. definately an interesting guy...im glad to have him as opposed to some C3POish cyborg that drones on and on for 2 hours with no enthusiasm. speaking of 3PO, today he was mentioning sentence transitions and how it relates to scene transitions in movies. he mentioned george lucas and star wars because he usually uses a certain type of wipe pattern to go from scene to scene, so that automatically gets him points in my book. and my history teacher mentioned star wars today because on friday we will be watching a short 5 minute clip featuring alec guinness (actor for obiwan kenobi in the original trilogy).
all in all its going to be a rough 10 weeks (esp w/ spring weekend AHHHHH!!!!!!! i forgot about that...) but as long as i keep up in my studies and work hard, i think God will honor that. therefore, i have nothing to worry about!!
babblemania heh im sorry. my bad :).
