Well, I promised Animal, so here goes.
About 3 1/2 weeks ago, I got a contract position at a rather cool place. I really liked it, liked the people I worked with, and the job.
Then, after my first week working on the contract, another job offer at a different company came through. (When it rains, it pours.) Not quite as nice of a job, but it was a permanent job. With two kids, I kinda can't overlook that.
I told my boss at my contract job about it, that I was gonna have to leave after one week to go to this other job.
They hired me on the spot, into a permanent position.
Soooo, what am I doing?? Glad you asked....
TOYS! I got a job designing TOYS!
Damn damn damn damn damn. I am *so* loving what I'm working on. Only job I've ever had where I can be interrupted on the phone by my co-worker's test system singing in Spanish in Dora the Explorer's voice. It's a pretty surreal work environment.
I know i'm in the "honeymoon period". After being out of work for a year and a half, I'm expecting a one hell of a grab-the-headboard kind of honeymoon. (thank you
Wapsi Square) Still, it's cool people, a good environment, the boss seems to be a great guy, and they want me to work on really neat stuff.
Anyhow, I've landed a job working as an engineer for
LeapFrog, an educational toy manufacturer in Emeryville. (My division is in Los Gatos-- I have to go to Emeryville occasionally, like on Monday, but at least Los Gatos is a bit closer to home.)
