OOC: Writer meme

What's your real name?: Nicky

Age?:  23? No, wait, 24 recently.

Where do you live?: Internet, you know I love you, but let's not make this too personal.

Do you have a job?: Against all odds, yes!

How much RP experience do you have?:  11 years.  Holy hell, we started young.

What are your feelings about shipping?:  I like to play the spectrum of relationships!  Some of my characters are total hobags, others are searching for true love, some are burnt out and a couple want absolutely nothing to do with romantic or sexual entanglements.  Representative samples are fun!.  I think long-term relationships can be challenging and rewarding to work through; just like in real life, it takes work to keep things from stagnating.

What are your feelings about smut?:  I think it can be fun for everyone involved, I'm just wary of starting down that path, because I've seen a lot of in-game relationships devolve into nothing but smut, to the point where it becomes booooring.  I'm also very selective about who I'll RP with because, let's be honest, smut gives us, the writers, a case of the naughty tinglies.  While we don't always channel our personal fantasties through our characters, writing erotica gets the heart racing.  Some of us might leave it at that, and some of us might go off and do something about it (meaningful italics are meaningful).  So I limit this kind of RP to close friends for two reasons: A) I'm a little uncomfortable with the idea of being an unwitting participant in a stranger's sex-act or inflicting that same passive involvement on someone else and B) people get as weird about fake sexual relationships as they do about actual ones, and I prefer to head the crazy off at the pass.

Are there things you won't RP?:  I have a short list:
A) Rape - While I think it can be used (EVER SO CAREFULLY AND WITH OODLES OF RESEARCH) as a story element, I refuse to RP a rape scene.  For one thing, it's far too easy to disrespect the reality of the subject and, for another, there are places I don't think I'm capable of going.  I'm the first to admit that I've had a disgustingly pleasant, normal life.  Some boundaries should be respected by those privileged enough never to have crossed them.
B) Incest -  Wh-whaaaa?
C) Character Death - Again, the story may demand this, but I'm not really a fan of cutting off all further possibilities.  Though I will admit that I can't imagine Neph past the age of, say, 25.  She's such a "Live Fast and Die Young" archetype that she ceases to exist past that point.  But, since I love her so much, I rein her in at the late teens.
D) Villains - It's not a 'won't', it's a 'can't'.  I suck at evil.  This is a personal shortcoming as a writer, and one I've been lax about pushing past.  For me, RP is a fun thing.  I'm not really looking to darken it up on my end, not when there are so many talented folks who enjoy villainy.

What are your favorite things to RP?:  Oh, another list:
A) Smartassery - My favorite characters are the ones with off-the-cuff wit.  I'm no good at it in real life, but give me a few hours to mull it over and I can come up with some decent snark.  And while I may not always be that great at writing it, I love interacting with other such characters.
B) Fight Scenes - Nothing caps off a shitty day like fictionally headbutting someone in the face.  I put a lot of effort into trying to write fights that are easy to visualise and get the blood pumping.  In the same vein, it's important to me that my characters take realistic damage.  Virtually any of my characters that have been in fights have the scars to prove it.
C) Creative use of powers - Some abilities are really straightforward, and those are the most fun to twist.  Sometimes they present really cool escapes from tricky situations.  Similarly, I like puzzles and traps that force characters to use their abilities.  You're a sorcerer, a vampire, a tech-whiz?  APPLY THAT!  Yeah, we're in it for the character development, but it's also about escaping into worlds that don't exist in our reality!
D) Building to Relationships - The initial infatuation and tapdance is so much fun, it often takes me years to get to any of that smutty payoff previously mentioned.  And there are so, so many ways to get there.

What's something you wished would get RPed more?:  Bang up throw down action sequences.  Brawls.  Fistfights.  I love the breathless mometum that comes with them, but I find that they're rarely carried to a conclusion.  Momentum can be a tricky, touchy thing for a lot of RPers, and once it's gone...it's gone.  But I wish that wouldn't keep such threads from being started in the first place!

Are you plot driven?:  Yes.  If I don't have at least one plot-ful thread for every fluffy incident, I wander away.  I'll often reply more regularly to plotty things than to random fun, because of the drive to get there and do that.

Slow or fast tagger:  Slow, but regular.  You can expect at least one weekly response from me, though occasionally I can reach speeds of every-other-day.  I'm afraid I've bitten off more than I can chew as of late, and my responses are rarely less than 500 words.  Also, Real Life keeps me hopping.

Who are your active muses?:  alloyed , burning_bryghte , jyu_ho , im_in_ur , middlenamestoic  and, to a much lesser degree, neverbloomer

Your favorite muses to write?: My top rotating three are Lynn, Neph and Mae.  Neph is the easiest one to slip into, as she's peppy, outgoing and buzzing a billion miles per minute.  She energizes me and often works as a catalyst on days when I owe a lot of tags.  While most of my characters exist as OCs outside of games and threads, Lynn is the oldest and most developed.  Her voice is an old, familiar road, but her temper keeps it from being boring.  I admit that I channel a lot of my mother through her casual badassedness, and maybe I just like that feeling of being close to her.  Mae, on the other hand, I like for her strictly non-combatant status.  In a lot of ways, she forces me to be more creative, and it's fun to explore the mindset of someone who isn't, and never was, human.
