March was a serious take-the-bull-by-the-horns kind of month for me.
I bought new glasses.I bought a car.I submitted some work for a juried show and was accepted.I bought a lot of materials for art to make some real serious pieces.I got an invitation to be in a show this summer.I made a loose plan for paying down my credit cards aggressively.I paid one of my credit cards off completely.
All that stuff costs money. In some cases serious money. Any money that came in went right back out the door. As soon as some money for a piece I sold cleared I spent it immediately on new materials. I received my paycheck today and I immediately put away half of my next rent payment, paid into my new credit card pay-down plan, and checked on some billing situation with those glasses (they don't charge till the end of the week when they ship them). After reading through some emails I checked into it and the fee for one gallery is due before my next paycheck. After I pay him, get charged for my glasses, and my rent check goes through I will be left with $7. Bad planning, Andrew. I can tap some of the money I set aside for next month's rent, but it'll need to come out of the next paycheck along with my first car payment. So after a few days of raucous spending on all sorts of stuff to get my ass in gear I'm actually on the fringe of economic trouble unlike anything I have been in since the last time I didn't have a job when my car broke down. At least I was still living with my parents back then.
Reminder to self: Selling your body is only free on a monetary level. You'll pay for it elsewhere. Any more suggestions?
