Wow, I haven't updated this in a REALLY long time! Mostly because I haven't had anything massively interesting to say. Ok, bullet point time.
  • I am in love with Rome. It really is an incredible city. It has the aesthetic beauty of Paris, the charm of Barcelona, and the character of London. I want to live there someday, but first I must learn to speak Italian, make a great cup of coffee, and cross the road without getting run over by a Vespa. Or maybe even learn to RIDE a Vespa!
  • I'm going to Venice next month (continuing my love affair with Italy). One minute I was talking to my flatmate (the very lovely Beth, without whom I would probably have become a reclusive mess during my first few months of uni) and speculating about the location of a particular place that was mentioned in her revision, and an hour later we had a trip to Venice booked. This is one of the many things I love about this place, you really never know where the night will take you - be it to a gorgeous Italian city, or just a great Thursday night at Bumper.
  • I had an exam this month. And quite a few exams the month before. I've got past the point of worrying about the results, and have moved into a "Que será, será" attitude (sorry for the cliché, but I am a student of languages, after all!). I'll be very happy if I pass everything, but I'd very much like a 2:1 in Spanish, though I think my oral exam may have screwed up my chances there. Oh well, I got 70% on my politics essay on the the channels of representation offered by Corporatism, and before I started it I had literally no idea what corporatism is, so at least that shows I've learnt something this semester.
  • I bought Bridget Jones's Diary in Spanish. I think I love her even more in my favourite language. I could have used some of her wisdom before Christmas (men, ttsk) but I managed to get through a mini-crisis by whinging to my best friend from school over Facebook. I really should be a better friend to her.
  • I want to go and work in Spain over the summer, but I feel that it's probably going to be impossible. To make a bit of money so that I CAN do these things in the future, I'm thinking of doing  a bit of private tutoring in my spare time. Whether or not I'll ever have the confidance to do this remains to be seen, but it would be excellent practice for my year abroad, during which I plan to work as an English teacher. Scary stuff, I'm terrified of anyone younger than I am and even more terrified  of doing anything that equates to standing up and saying "I'm good at Spanish", but I think it will be a valuable experience.
I think that's enough rambling for one day. I'm going to try to update this more often, even if no one is reading it. It's nice to have the opportunity to reflect on the positive aspects of my life at any one time, and I always feel like my mood has been lifted after I post an entry.
