Slate! It's like what I loved about Design Observer, but more than just design! But I really like this video which is still relating to design regarding radical
Islamist clothing and aesthetic. Maybe I'm just
getting paranoid and filled with anxiety because of all this unceasing talk about global warming, but it's like
20 degrees above the normal temperature in the west right now. And Texas is flooding. Are these things related to years of CO2 emissions, or is that just a particular coincidence, and the important stuff is the ice sheets melting and polar bears deaths?
I'm buying into
the propaganda I guess. I work at a sushi restaurant in Broad Ripple. Naked Tchopstix. Slate recently asked
how Sushi became such a popular cuisine in America. And at work recently the sushi chef's and some of the other servers and I were chatting about the over fishing all over the place. Apparently, its far worse than just the
Japanese fearing they've over fished Tuna, several fish populations have
decreased by 90% since 1950. We haven't been selling Toro (fatty tuna) for a week or so, and our other Tuna (in my secret opinion) hasn't looked up to par with the Tuna I've seen them serve in the past. These are probably not directly related, as in I don't think the store owner read that article and acted on it. But I imagine the price of fatty tuna from Japan is very high right now, and that the quality of other Bluefin Tuna is comparably low. But, what I'm wondering is, on an international scale how sustainable is sushi? I did a quick G
oogle search, and found several useful links. The first is an editors response to a similarly anxious (easily broken by green propaganda) consumer. The suggestions is simply to make a plan to
obtain information and act on it. I could have told you to do that, and done some more web searches to find similar information about stuff we already should know about--mercury levels. The best things I was able to find:
SeaChoice. If your going to eat fish, and you have a lot of time on your hands, you can use the website to find businesses that are given ratings, kind of crude ratings. Sometimes I wish these types of ratings sites had more information about their rating systems. They should review factories like they review movies, I want multiple reviewers using lots of elaborate but relevant adjectives.
In all this anxiety created by environmental observations, projections, solutions and concerns. I've had something come up in two important conversations about sustainability, how
sustainable is sustainability. Could we be a victim of our own success. Is it possible to have a balance between consumption and production on a global scale? As I am writing this the paranoia has climaxed. Yes, yes, I did ask a global question. But here's the thing, I think the climate situation is kind of serious. And kind of quickening in its importance. And I mean, Honestly, I'm pretty calm, and honestly, I basically do whatever I want (I'll hopefully be taking a plane or two somewhere[s] in the next year if all goes to plan), and I certainly don't want to stop anyone else from doing that. Just seems like somethings going to happen before it'll be worth it for the majority of people to change their lifestyles. And this certainly a concern of our time. I'm just going to keep looking for ways to meet the problem halfway.
Also, I've finished recording. I'll be selling albums soon, details after I get the first one all finished. I can tell you now the price will be 20$. The disc will contain original artwork, 15 songs (out of 24), and an original sticker. There will be a limit to how many I sell, sense I've got to craft them myself. Again, more details soon.
