The Mages are basically there to provide visual effects and to keep magical barriers in place. Oh, and break up fights if they get too serious.

Oh, I see. So the Coliseum is really more of a performance than a contest?

Yes. I'm sorry, many people have been asking me about it, so I wasn't sure if I had described it to you as well. Without magicite, no one would be able to learn magic. At least... unless there were special circumstances.

It seems that way. Though I believe the winners are paid better.

You've mentioned these 'special circumstances' before. Have you learned any more about them?

...Yes. If a human and an Esper have a child, the child will be able to use magic naturally.

...That makes sense. I hadn't thought of the possibility that humans and Espers could have children together.

Some of them are nearly human in the way they look, while others more closely resemble beasts. There are many different kinds.
