ah, so that's why indie rock shows are $15, while the, umm, breed love odyssey tour was $35/40. because at an indie rock show you get to stand around for long stretches between acts, feel awkward when you dance cause nobody else is fucking moving, and see the headliner for maybe an hour and a quarter (including encore). whereas tonight k'naan, jean grae, pharoah monch, talib kweli, mos def, and assorted djs performed five straight hours of music, no set breaks, no down time, nothing of the sort. mos def alone was doing his thing for just under two hours (including black star set + solo business); i do believe it's because i was there. he knew he needed to work hard and retain the number one spot on my favorite people on earth list. and yeah. there were even a rather healthy number of non-caucasian, non-bro people there! ...i'm pretty glad i went.
