Other Characters Played: None.
Preferred Housing: If possible, could Jack be placed with Jade Harley? Debs said it was cool with her; if not, then anywhere is fine.
Character Name: Bec Noir (who can also just be called Jack Noir, an agent of Derse, or the Sovereign Slayer)
Character Series: Homestuck
Character Age: Technically ageless the Jacks on d_m say -0! but since his personality is post 4th-prototyping, he should obviously be a pet. Good dog, best villain!
Background:
HERE is a very good history of what Jack’s been doing since the webcomic began! I will be taking him post 4th-prototyping, immediately after his second fight with Bro, but before he goes to kill John.
Personality:
For the most part, Jack is a stereotypical villain. His goals are all very self-centric: that is, he will do what he wants and not give a damn if someone disagrees with his plan. He doesn’t tend to plan things, instead seeming to make things up as he goes along, as he does after he gains his third prototyping. Sure, he has a few goals, if you count world destruction and becoming the most powerful creature known to man- and troll-kind among them. However, his minute goals are small. Kill people. Reap spoils from the losers. Jack’s plans are anger-fueled and passion-driven. He knows what he wants, and he will take it from someone. Even if they die in the process. Sometimes, it seems like he has some pity (when he leaves WV alive, for example). But Jack hates any emotions that could be counted as positive, in particular love. Positive emotions only get in his way, and it’s much easier to carry out malicious plans to kill all the heroes of the story when he’s not feeling devout affection for a certain green text girl.
He has a sense of payment owed and lost, if not a sense of honor. For example, Jack repays the debt of Dad destroying his hat by setting him free from jail on Derse. Part of this is most like malicious intent against the Black Queen (who, the trolls would tell you, has a hard on blackrom relationship with Jack). But certainly, Jack only does things that he gets it into his mind are required, and would never have done anyone a favor. The same thing happens with PM and the box. It certainly isn’t to Jack’s advantage to let her take it, but he does so anyway. She fulfilled her side of the deal (so he thinks), and so he has to fulfill his. It irks him when scores are not settled. Jack also knows how to fight fairly -- he returns the weapon to Bro when they fight the second time. It’s not that wouldn’t have killed Bro in an underhanded way (this guy makes underhanded killing look like child’s play). He wanted a fight, fair and square -- if you’re going to prove your worth, it’s better to do it fairly.
Jack bores easily, especially after his fourth prototyping. If there aren’t people to kill, planets to destroy, relationships to mess up, he’s bored. Because he’s not a human, or perhaps because Skaia knows a villain when it sees one, Jack gets no help from the clouds or any other sort of aid that the kids have in their quest. He doesn’t have any friends (not that, if he did, he would call them friends) except for the puppet Lil Cal. He doesn’t trust anyone farther than he can throw them -- he says that Cal is the only one who hasn’t betrayed him at some point. His underlings are just that -- underlings. He can’t accept them as equals, and therefore they will always do something he doesn’t want at some point, and they certainly will never be friends unless he stops being a raging demigod. Power has gone to his head; Jack lives for the killing, and the bloodshed. But it works against him -- when you destroy the entire universe, what do you have left to do?
Not that Jack is entirely serious all the time. He can be pretty ridiculous and juvenile! He goes on a trophy binge in more recent updates, flipping through different accessories wildly, and almost seems to enjoy that. But that’s not how a villain should act, and so his anger gets the best of him. Silliness has its place, but it’s definitely not where people could see (or when you’re busy trying to destroy everything). Jack would still do it again though, given the chance. Maybe. He kind of likes his trophies, though a disgusting uniform was what gave him the hatred to kill the Black Queen in the first place. He is a conflicted character, stuck between the ultimate desire to satisfy all of his wants and the ultimate need to abolish all connections with the job and world he hated. And oh, he can gloat. He is good at gloating. Take that, dead kids. Ha ha.
Abilities:
Jack is a demigod, complete with the ability to unleash massive amounts of power and destroy whole planets, as well as just cause havoc everywhere he goes. He gains this power from the prototypings that exist inside of his ring (well, it was really the Black Queen’s ring, but still). In addition, he also has some remnants of the things he’s been prototyped with. He has a sword that’s stuck through his stomach (he uses his body as a sheath), only has one arm, and has the memories and appearance of Bec, the first guardian of earth.
Because of the prototyping of Bec, he has gained the power of the Green Sun, which makes him virtually omnipotent. He lacks in omniscience, however, and tends to restrain himself to making killing random citizens a fine art. He also, at one point, claimed the power of the Bionic Bunny, a cyborg robot bunny equipped with miniatures of the most powerful weapons the kids could make in the game. However, the bunny and its abilities no longer lie in allegiance with him -- they belong to John now.
He is also a skilled artist of stick figures, and never gets STIs from stabbing people and then sticking his sword back in his chest.
Sample Entry:
[There’s silence, the seething silence of someone who’s trying really hard to control his anger. This goes on for awhile, before the voice appears.]
The house leaks. Bad enough that I get stuck in some doghouse, and now it leaks. Whoever’s idea this was, it’s not funny.
Once I figure out how to fix this thing I’m making it into a fucking palace.
[He pauses; Jack’s not usually one to reveal his plans, but...]
And if you see a guy in shades running around, send him to me. I know I've seen him around somewhere.
The dead should stay dead.
