When in bloody-hell did that happen?! I can't believe the holiday is over! It was a great one tho. Nice and quiet in the morning with just me and my parents. Then when my brothers and their kids came over at 11ish, the house was insane for a good 10 hours. Got some cool stuff- including one of those GT Express 101 thingies. *And if any of you have found yourself watching the infomercial, you'll see what I find myself watching as tho in a trance, every time it comes on.* My presents to my family were big hits, as always. I must say, I was told a ton of times yesterday that I should sell my jewelry. And thinking about it, I'd be making a good bit o' money. Only one thing I have to bitch about from yesterday...
A little background info...
My nephew is not actually my brother's son. He's from my sister-in-law's previous marriage. But he's been treated and loved as though he's blood the entire time he's been in our lives. So in the way of grandparents, for the most part he's incredibly blessed. Not only does he have my parents, but my sister-in-law's mom and her boyfriend....and then there's his other grandparents. *le sigh* Now let me just say, that my sister-in-law is leaving him the option to know his real "dad" *and I use that term loosely...* and not blocking him off from that part of his genes. But, to be perfectly honest, I think she should. These people only show up in the boys life maybe once a month, and have the balls to expect my brother to be ok with them keeping him as long as they want without letting anyone know when he'll be coming back. *attempted kidnapping, anyone?* Then they spoil him rotton, giving him anything and everything he wants while he's with them. Some people may say, well, that's ok. He's a great kid and he really isn't bringing that spoiled attitude home with him. In reality, they're buying his affections. Not only that, but his retard of a biological...well, we'll just call him Mr.Sperm-Donor, is actually demanding that my nephew call him dad when they're together. What the *&%@?! I'm sorry, but a wad of spunk and 30 seconds does not give you the right to be called "dad" for any reason! I mean, what kind of dad can you be if you send your 9 year old son home with beer bottle caps as toys? Or to tell a kid that when he turns 18, he can come live with you? *...and your drinking and drugs that you do right in front of him.* How the hell can you think that something like that is ok?! Anyway, I can go on for hours about how wrong the whole thing is, and why?- not only because I can put these intelligent thoughts together *unlike this moron,* but because I know what it takes to be considered anyone's father, because I've lived with an amazing father and I see an amazing father in my brother when he's with my nephew.
So, with that said...my nephew was checking his watch every 5 minutes, waiting for the time when he'd be going to these peoples' house. He wouldn't sit still, or pay attention...he flew through opening his presents, played with them for an hour, and then kept asking what time it was. This really upset me. The kid is such a good boy, and here he is, acting like a snot. Of course I didn't say anything...none of us did. But we all knew it was because of those...horrible people. He knew that he'd be getting more presents once he got there. Not because they love him, or care about him like we do. Last year, he didn't want to leave to go to their house. He wanted to stay with us- his real family. I don't know what to think about the whole thing...it's not my place to get upset about it, but I am. I know that some day he's going to realize that...esentially he's going to have to make a decision. In a situation like this, you can't live the way they want him to and turn out ok. They seem to be breaking down all of the good values and manners he gets from us, and becomes some other kid I don't know. I guess what upsets me is that he's growing up a bit crooked...and although I know he's a good kid now, I've seen what good kids turn into with sitations like this. I'm afraid that no matter how much we love and care for him, he's not going to see that through all of the presents and money they give him. I'm afraid he'll see everything we give him, everything my brother gives him, as something other than what it is. I'm afraid he'll see objects and posessions as love....and it worries me that it'll cause us all a lot of pain. He's only 9 now...but he's so smart, and growing up so fast....
