He went away. There had been no choice. Where he had gone, even he wasn't sure. There had been the Key and there had been many doors. He had just kept going.
There had been ocean, cities, other planets, realms beyond his wildest dreams, but he had kept going. Memories fell by the wayside, past hates, past loves, past hurts, so many doors and so many changes.
Several times he returned to the forest, but each time she sent him out again, looking, searching, hunting for he didn't know what.
Until he was lost.
One door too many and Michael Knight lost himself.
It wasn't a bad thing. It wasn't a good thing either. It simply happened.
Some things remained. His family, ever important, was rooted in his subconscious and he clung to it. Cerridwen, a thought away from insanity, she was there. But many, many associations were lost to memory, whether it be damaged or not.
Until he was no longer Knight.
No longer Long.
No longer anything, but simply Michael.
And then she let him come home.
