HORCRUX
Rules and Regulations
The following rules and regulations provided for the Horcrux-themed Summer Challenge of 2006 is divided into three parts: Contest Rules, Theme Rules and Specific Contest Rules.
Contest Rules are the groundwork of the entire challenge.
FWG Contest Rules
FWG:C-I. Each author is permitted to register a single account for the contest; authors that register more than a single account for the contest will be disqualified and their stories removed.
C-I., A Multiple authors may register a single account for the purpose of submitting a group-story but must declare this; authors who are apart of a group who are entering a story may not additionally enter a story under another account. Any authors caught breaking this rule will have all the stories involved disqualified.
FWG:C-II. Each registered account is allowed a single entry into the contest.
FWG:C-III. All entries into the contest must be published upon the site designated for holding contest-entries; stories that do not adhere to this rule will be ignored.
FWG:C-IV. Stories must be completed by the date listed under Specific Contest Rules. Stories that are not marked complete by said date will be disqualified.
FWG:C-V. Stories entered into the contest must be at least fifteen thousand (15,000) words long. Stories that do not meet this requirement will be disqualified.
FWG:C-VI. Stories entered into the contest must not exceed seventy-five thousand (75,000) words. Stories that exceed this total will be disqualified.
FWG:C-VII. Stories entered into the contest that are completed and follow the rules are entitled to review. Review is defined as the following: a single review and a single score from each judge apart of the contest; the overall average of the scores.
C-VII., A Each judge will give each story that is completed and follows the rules of the contest a score between 0.00 and 10.00; scores that are closer to 0.00 will reflect that the judge does not believe the story is good; scores that are closer to 10.00 will reflect that the judge believes the story is good.
FWG:C-VIII. Stories appraised the first, second and third highest averages of the contest will receive the awards of FWG Summer Challenge Champion, FWG Summer Challenge Runner-up and FWG Summer Challenge Second Runner-up, respectively.
FWG:C-IX. Each challenge will have set prizes; the prizes set for the contest will be listed in Specific Contest Rules and the method by which they are delivered to the winners will be left up to the winner of said placement prize.
C-IX., A Placement prize winners always have the option of requesting a gift card rather than receive the prizes set for the tournament; the overall value of the prizes will be assessed and translated into a figure (in USD) and a respective gift card from an online shop of the winners choosing will be given.
FWG:C-X. Stories may be thought up, created and previewed by other authors privately prior to the competition in part due to information about the contest being given out well before the starting date. However, stories may not appear on any public forum, public publishing area or public website until the offical starting time and date of the contest (listed in the Specific Contest Rules). Authors caught breaking this rule will be disqualified.
C-X., A All stories entered into the competition must never have existed in any public viewing area, prior to the starting date listed in Specific Contest Rules. Authors caught cheating and entering stories they have already made (that possibly meet the other rules of the challenge) will be disqualified.
FWG:C-XI. Authors may enter the contest at any moment during the time in which the contest runs; authors must however declare themselves for the contest prior to entering a story. The method by which authors must declare their intention to contend will be listed in Specific Contest Rules.
Theme Rules apply to the theme and overall challenge of the contest; these are set apart from the Contest Rules for easy reference.
FWG Theme Rules
FWG:T-I. All stories entered into the FWG Summer Challenge must have the character of Harry Potter serve as the protagonist; stories entered that are not "Harry Potter-centric" will be disqualified without review.
FWG:T-II. All stories entered into the FWG Summer Challenge must be set after the events of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; stories that are not "Post-HBP" will be disqualified without review.
T-II, A Authors are allowed to make limited alterations to the text of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; authors who endeavour in changing parts of the Half-Blood Prince will be left to determine what "limited alterations" means to them. Authors who do not show apt control of their changes will find their stories graded down.
T-II, B The first five books of the Harry Potter series may not be altered in any way, shape, or form; authors who alter the events that occur in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (American Title: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire or Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will have their stories disqualified without review.
FWG:T-III. The defining theme for the FWG Summer Challenge of 2006 will be the Horcrux, the instrument with which Voldemort escapes death. Stories entered into the Summer Challenge of 2006 must include at least one Horcrux. Authors will be left to determine if their usage of the Horcrux will be major or minor but will also be cautioned and reminded that the theme of Horcrux and the requirement of a Post-HBP timeline are staples of the contest and will be in the minds of the judges come reviewing time. Stories that do not include a Horcrux will be disqualified without review.
Specific Contest Rules includes the basics of when, where and how to post your stories. They are specific and unique to each contest.
FWG Specific Contest Rules
G-I. The Summer Challenge 2006: Horcrux competition will officially begin at 12:00AM (Midnight) GMT (0) on July 16th, 2006 and officially end at 11:59PM GMT (0) on September 3rd, 2006.
G-I., A The announcement of those who won will take place on September 23rd at 12:00AM (Midnight) GMT (0)
G-II. All authors must declare their intention to contend within the thread entitled "Registration: Authors", located at the FWG Summer Challenge 2006 forum at DarkLordPotter.Net.
G-III. All stories must be published on Fanfiction.Net and must also be registered for a personal thread at the FWG Summer Challenge 2006 forum located at DarkLordPotter.Net. Stories that do not have a thread dedicated will be ignored; to apply for a thread dedicated to your story, you must be a registered author. Registered authors must then declare their entry (the story they intend to use for the contest) in the thread entitled "Registration: Stories".
G-IV. The Summer Challenge Champion will be awarded $100.00USD; the Summer Challenge Runner-Up will be awarded $50.00USD; the Summer Challenge Second Runner-Up will be awarded $25.00USD.
G-V. The sponsers of the Summer Challenge 2006: Horcrux competition are DarkLordPotter.Net and PatronusCharm.Net.
G-V., A DarkLordPotter.Net has agreed to provide hosting and space for the competition and all major events will be made public through it.
