House Inspection

Nov 27, 2007 18:11

We had a house inspection done on our new townhouse today. Fascinating procedure and we learned tons about the ins and outs of house maintenance and just about our townhouse in general. The inspector who came in was very professional and thorough and lord_korak will be glad to know he was a C.E.T. (I checked our recommendations against the comment you sent me, Walter, before we called someone :)). Our inspector was from HouseMaster, and I'd recommend them to anyone looking for an inspector. They have good guarantees on their work, lengthy house reports that they give you in paper, as well as on a private web space, and a thick binder of information, including lengthy sections on how to maintain all the important things in your house. There was also a house maintenance DVD included in the package, though John and I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. He also gave us pencils and 2008 wall poster calendars :). All together, the house inspection took about two and a half hours.

And the inspection went well, so yay, that's one more step toward closing the deal on the townhouse.

Went through the townhouse even more thoroughly today, starting to look with a decorator's eye. Took photos of all the windows to consider curtains, took more photos of current paint colours, took photos of all the electronic digital panels on the appliances as all the appliances are -much- newer than anything I've used in recent years! Went out to explore the back some more to decide where I could plant gardens and the like (even though they can't be planted for another six months). John saw his first squirrel in the backyard today, which made him happy because, unlike other friends of ours, he likes squirrels :). There's presently a bird feeder out back (though the seller may take it, I'm not sure), but we'll likely put up a squirrel feeder, too, to befriend all the critters in the area. So very Giselle of us ("Enchanted" reference- now if I could only train them to do my housework...).

Report cards go out tomorrow. Parent-teacher interviews are the next evening and following morning. At this point my interviews end at 7:40 pm, which is nice, considering that in other years they've gone right up to 9:00 pm and beyond. I'll be glad when November is over, since it is almost always one of the hardest months in the school year and adding house hunting/buying to that has just put the "hard" factor into the stratosphere.

Wake me up when November ends. 'Cause December will only have Christmas and school choir performances and travelling and packing and moving... should be a piece of cake, RIGHT?
