Please tell me a few subjects about which you personally are surprised that most people are so clueless.

How the American government works, much less the state of the world in general. I've been stunned to find college students who don't know who the president is, among other things.

Yes, considering that some people got it wrong on the test.

Further, when the state representative came in to speak to the class, as soon as he left they were making fun of how he looked. He was blind and disabled, so... it was more than a little rude. Especially since I knew the man personally, and he was a fantastic statesman. His brother is currently in his seat, and I was on his campaign staff. I really hope that the first runs for Senate next year.

This is a real test question for real college students, or something that was included as a "freebie"/giveaway or what?

PSC110 American National Government

You wonder why so few young people vote. A lot of the ones I run into care so little about the way the government is run that they just don't bother to understand the mechanics about it, thus giving them little sense of efficacy. It's why, when/if I teach American Democracy 101, I'm using the Idiot's Guide to American Government to do so. :p

I also point out that in my comparative political systems class, someone seriously got in an argument with me over whether or not the Welsh spoke English.

He said they didn't. Heh. People scare me.
