"I know you were friends," she offers in a soft voice, glancing towards the living room. "But you can't be serious about keeping him."

Charon doesn't look mad. Then again, he rarely, if ever, looks mad. Sad, yes. Upset, yes. Or resigned, like he looks now, shadows under his eyes. But he also looks determined as he looks at her, and Raetsel's heart thumps heavily inside her chest.

"He's all alone, and scared, and now people fear him, too," he shakes his head. "It was okay when all he wrote were small things, funny things. But now... now they will fear him, and it won't matter that he is just a six years old boy."

Raetsel bites her lip, looking again towards the couch were Fakir fell asleep. He's still bruised, still bandaged where he got hurt. He looks exhausted, too, his face drawn.

She sighs.

"I can take care of him after school," she offers, rewarded when Charon smiles.

Really, what else can she do?
