Angie and I marathoned through Seirei no Moribito! Proper thoughts later, but for now, have a crossover ficlet. Sen to Chihiro/Seirei no Moribito, implied spoilers for the end of Seirei no Moribito.

The laugh of a Water Spirit is that of waterfalls and rain, and there is no River Dragon who doesn't like it, who doesn't feel its spirits soar when the Water Spirit decides to travel through their backs. It's a honor, and Nigihayami Kohaku Nushi curls around the Spirit, feels soft hands on his fur, almost thinks he can see it before the Spirit retreats, giggling, hiding again.

No Spirit is the same, even if it's reborn.

But the spirit laughs, and Nigihayami Kohaku Nushi thinks some things never change as it rides on his back. It tells his tales from before he was born, speaks of the human who became Emperor who helped him and protected him, of how warm human hands can actually be. It speaks of melancholy and love for humans, the way few spirits and gods talk about them.

Nigihayami Kohaku Nushi doesn't care for humans. His river won't be tamed, and he doesn't allow constructions over his back. He is a proud spirit, and when he allows humans to drink from his river, he's doing much more than he ought.

But, Nigihayami Kohaku Nushi does wonder about human hands, and perhaps of their warmth.

crossover weakness go, shinny addict, i'm a fandom h0r
