yale, o yale...

I climbed Mt. YALE.

Yes: yesterday, with Tiffany, 14,196 feet into the sky... supposedly the trail was 7.5 miles long:: we thought that meant round-trip. Uh: didn't feel like it. It took us 10 hours to finish: left the car at 9:15, got back at about 7:15. And to think, I thought we'd be done and home in time for dinner. Not after that hike, with a 90 mile, 55 mph road ahead of us. It was great, it was nice. It was gorgeous! 0% chance of precipitation:: good thing, too. With the usual afternoon t-storm, we wouldn't have even made it to tree-line (the point in elevation where trees don't grow bc. of a lack of sufficient oxygen) before realizing the need to turn back. It was uphill, like all mountain hikes... but it was a hard uphill. I feel so whimpy saying that: but it was freakin' hard. And the last chunk of the hike before the summit was scrambling over big boulders on top of the mountain. I'm sore and sunburnt and tired and exhausted. But I climbed YALE. I saw about 25 other 14ers from the top, and I saw far-off mountain ranges, all underneath a clear blue sky. I expected 20-30 degree temperatures on the summit, considering the nearby town at 9,000 ft had a high of 68 forecasted:: but alas, it felt like 50 and windless. So nice. And then, there's always the hike down: miserable. But the scenery was gorgeous: and the thoughts of the sound of music or lord of the rings, and their mountain ranges... and just the views and being so completely aware of this amazing creation and all the tiniest details... wow.

Today: recovering. Eating good food, protein, and water. Lots of water.
And perhaps a 2nd interview at Starbucks? they called & said so... I'm now awaiting details.
my new plan is to live and work here, enjoy Colorado and my family, keep up the design skills, and then move to NYC, prepared for an internship that'll lead to a job, and skills that will be transferrable to other places... to outdoor-focused publishing companies... like Rodale in PA, or to Cali, where it seems all the action sports mags are published... hmmm... my newest thought....
