It's a good book, I know it is, but I think I'm going to have to stop reading it. I'm a bit less than halfway through it, and I feel so depressed by it

I probably will finish it in the end. I hate leaving things unfinished, even if it wasn't so good. It's probably proof of how good it is, that it makes me feel so bleak. There just seems to have been no point at which she could have changed things.
I'm reading another one alongside, to remedy effects. Rivers of London, by Ben Aaronovitch. It's a thriller / murder mystery with supernatural features, that you'll suddenly find yourself snorting with laughter at. Just what I need!
Thanks for your review. I know what I'm in for a bit more now.
I couldn't help it! It kept on drawing me back in! Finished it this morning.
Oh wow. You are so right that it gets more and more intense! It makes you think of so many different things - why didn't she leave, was there anything that could have been done different, would it have made any difference if she and her husband had been more together on their approach to Kevin. The big question of why Kevin did it seems a bit of a no-brainer in the end. I did wonder about Franklin's absence before the end - my suspicions were aroused, possibly by the fact that she kept using his name.
I'm glad I finished it, and thank you for encouraging me to do that, but it is so not a book to read when you're feeling fragile.
