Apron

I just made a quick and easy apron for festival, but am now drooling over an apron in this style:

Given my propensity for playing with fire, I'm likely to get covered in soot at some stage at festival. And I tend to manage to get soot on the upper part of my body as well. So an apron which covers all would be very useful.

Problem is, I can't find an illustration of one that is French. I'd even settle for English. But all the pics I can find tend to be German or Austrian (although I think there's one from Slovakia) and quite early.

The picture on the left is from Birth of Mary, painted about 1460, which is a century too early for me.

I can find some that are a bit later - up to 1520. And mostly, although not exclusively, on midwives.

Below are a few more examples: first is from 1495, second is from 1505 and third is from 1520. All of them from birthing paintings.

There is at least one example in a non-birthing context (also German, from 1520s):

So, if anyone is aware of one of these from France or, more likely, England, I'd be very keen to know.

Then again, maybe I'll make one anyway, the wrong area notwithstanding. There's something to be said for not having soot all over my clothes!
