Visit to a world with no misleading advertising

I went to Priceline to get a cream for a stubborn/recurring pimple. As I was reading the fine print on the various packages (I do that), the saleswoman told me that there is this new preventer cream which is supposed to stop a pimple if used early. I asked her whether it actually worked. The answer is a delight:

"I haven't used it, but they wouldn't be allowed to say it if it didn't".

I had to struggle to not laugh at her. It would be nice to live in a world where the advertising spiels reflected the truth or where it was possible to prosecute someone for false advertising in any but the most egregious cases. But we do not.

A quick check of the ingredients of this new miracle preventer revealed that it has the same active ingredient as most other creams that have all been around for decades, just in lesser concentration. I was strongly reminded of "Nurafen Migraine", "Nurafen Backpain" and "Nurafen Period Pain" - all of which had exactly the same composition.

Welcome to the real world.
