My born-again-virgin ears are virgins no longer. I had them pierced today. This follows being given yet another pair of earrings by people who you think might have noticed by now that I never wear earrings. And its not because I don't own any. I actually have quite a collection - virtually all given to me since the holes closed up a decade ago ( Read more... )

Hubby and I got his mother earrings while we were on our honeymoon. We came home only to realize 3 MONTHS LATER that his mom didn't have her ears pierced.

Oh, no! Well at least she obiously didn't act all mortally offended about it, like my mother would have done. Is she getting her ears pierced? Or can she get clip-on attachments for those earrings and wear them that way?

Actually, she was a great sport about it and she said they give her a reason to get her ears pierced so she did about 7 weeks ago.

She put in the earrings we got her for a wedding and her birthday party. She's really happy she got them done now! Everyone got her earrings!

If your earlobes close up quickly after a piercing, it may be that you're allergic to the stainless steel or metal being used in the stud of the earrings. As soon as you're able to remove the earrings used in the piercing, or the metal stud ones they give you when you pierce your ears, replace them with gold hoops (can be small ones) or gold stud earrings. Pure gold, not gold-plated. It seems I'm allergic to certain metals in my ears, so I can only wear gold. Haven't tried anything else like silver or platinum. Hubby bought me a pair of gold hoops 8 years ago and I still wear them today. I love them and if I ever lose them, I think I'll cry. Hee! They don't have to be very expensive either. A nice 10k or 14k hoop or small stud will do. Congrats babe!

I'm on this bandwaggon to. Nickel makes my ears sore and they never heal. Solid silver is ok, and solid gold too.

Hey, maybe we just have ears with expensive taste!

I've had my ears pierced several times- I think when I was 7,9, and 12- but it wasn't until I was 16 that it "took". I'd always end up with AWFUL infections, puss and ick and yuck.

I found out that I'm allergic to Nickel- and that's found in a lot of earrings, though you can get some (at least here) that are nickel free. I can wear the Nickel earrings for a couple of hours, but I have to take them out after awhile because it hurts too much.

Sounds like you might have a similiar problem ;).

We're moving on Friday! Soon I will have to send you all kinds of neat stuff from North Carolina ;)

Yeah, I'm with Tracy. My ears are allergic and turn green when I wear earrings for more than a day. Which is why I haven't worn earrings since the wedding.

Good luck with these this time!

Ooh, hope it works out okay this time, Allie! I don't have any metal allergies, but I've known plenty of people who do, and yeah... all the suggestions above usually work. *Some* people can also wear ones with posts made of surgical steel, or something similar -- basically, something that's supposed to be hypo-allergenic.

I got my ears pierced right around my 18th b'day. I'd wanted to for YEARS before then, but my parents refused to let me. Finally, I wanted pearl earrings for my 18th b'day and we couldn't find ANY decent ones that weren't for pierced ears (which of course, was added to my campaign to get 'em done ;-)). Finally, Dad was smart enough to tell Mom that I'd just get 'em done when I was out on my own anyway, so I got 'em done. And about 2 weeks later, Mom got hers pierced!! *headdesk*

I hope it works out well this time around!

*HUGS*!!
