GIANT UKULELE NEWS

So, yesterday was my first ukulele lesson with my friend Kristen! We could only have a lesson for 30 minutes yesterday, but it was great. She taught me to tune the uke, which is a very good skill, considering the new strings on the uke go out of tune ALL THE TIME until they are broken in! We are using a ukulele songbook, "Jumpin' Jim's Tips n' Tunes." The book starts out in the key of C, and the first song is "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands." I can play that one like a pro, haha! That's because it only has two notes in it!!

Yesterday evening, one of my colleagues, Katie, had a holiday cocktail party at her apartment directly after work, and it was super nice. As I was getting ready to leave, I got my uke. Katie stopped me, and said she would really like it if I played the uke for everyone. (!!!) I said, "I only know 'He's Got the Whole World in His Hands.'" She said that was great. So I played it and everyone sang!! It was hilarious. Everyone was very excited about it! It was definitely the novelty of the uke better than my playing because I don't yet have a tuner, so the uke was definitely a little "off." Also I think it helped matters because everyone had had a few drinks prior to my "performance" and they were singing along and really enjoying themselves!

Anyhow, back at home, I practiced my ukulele for a couple hours. I have added the following songs to my repertoire:

* Clementine
* Amazing Grace
* All Together Now

I love the ukulele! I have found my calling!!! (Of course, I still enjoy playing my triangle too!)
