The Year of the Cock

Jan 01, 2005 23:36

I hope everyone had a nice New Year's Eve! Happy, happy, happy 2005!

Mine was certainly splendid, spent with some of my most favoritest people... It all began when Daphne drove into the city, giving Doris and I a ride. We parked waaaay uptown and took the train to the Village to meet up with the others at a sushi restaurant. I had my "Happy New Year" tiara (see my New Year's Eve post for a pic) in my bag, but it was sort of sticking out. It fell out on the subway I think. I was sad to have lost it, but lo and behold! Next door to the sushi restaurant, was New Year's Eve Hat Emporium! I selected a new tiara (the same as last time, only the feathers are hot-pink and the letters are teal). In addition, I convinced everyone to get multicolored-yet-matching tiaras, and I got some for those who weren't there yet. Daph stocked up on noisemakers.

Once we'd shopped, we went to the restaurant to resume waiting for everyone. Susan had gotten there, and it was the first time for her to meet my high-school friends, and for them to meet her. Marina showed up soon after with her two cousins. There were seven of us, total, and we made quite a hot Ladies' Night--if I do say so myself! There were quite a few cracks about 2005 being "the Year of the Cock." Myself, Doris, Daphne, and Marina are all born in the Year of the Cock. Will this be an extra-special year for us?? One hopes!! *crossed fingers!*

The place we ate, Funayama, was EXCELLENT. I would definitely go again. First off, they had the BEST beverage service I have ever seen. At once, we all got both water and green tea. They kept both glasses continually filled the entire night. Some of us got wine or sake. Then everyone got champagne at the end of the meal! Really great. The sushi was superb, and there were truly SO many choices, it was ultra-hard to pick what we wanted. Susan and I shared 3 things, but my eyes were waaaay bigger than my stomach and we could not possibly finish it all! It was so yummy.

After sushi, we headed to the Sapphire Lounge. The cover charge was only $20, and as a result, it was packed! We could barely move. It was also extremely dark in there. We tried unsuccessfully to buy drinks. They just didn't have enough staff behind the bar. We did stay close by the bar to get our free champagne. That was a good plan. After the countdown, we moseyed out into the middle of the 'dancefloor' and began dancing (well, bopping, because that's about all we could do in this paked joint). We were nearly molested! Let us say that it was the closest I've ever been to being in an orgy. When the guy behind me started sucking on my ear, it was time to go, and so Doris, Susan, and I broke free and "got some fresh air." In retrospect, it was very funny! At the time it was definitely sketchy.

At that point we were partied out, and so we all went our separate ways. (On the subway, Susan and I encountered some STRANGE folks in STRANGE costumes who were singing--very badly--about the year 2005. "2005! It's not 2004! But 2005! You got five fingers on your hand! And on your feet. Except those are called toes!") It was an overall fun night, though! And for the first time I have actually done the "going out" thing in NYC on New Year's Eve! I have 2 memorable New Year's Eves, one of which was spent in New Orleans, and now this year's! Usually I just do nothing. Mark your calendars for next year, folks. Susan and I are gonna do it up proud in our little apartment on NewYearsEve2005/2006.

new year's
