Professor Bines was droning on, but Allie couldn't even hear him.
Cedric Diggory's face was burned into her mind.
Allie had seen him the day of the final task in the Hufflepuff Common Room. He'd been leaning on on a bookshelf, looking out the window with an expression so focused Allie thought it better not to bother him, but before she could tip tow away he'd glanced over. Cedric put on a charming smile and gave a little wave. She smiled back; it was impossible not to smile when Cedric did. He had the kind of grin that melted even the coldest of hearts. His clear eyes would light up, and his whole face just seemed to glow.
That was not the face that haunted Allie's thoughts, now.
This Cedric's eyes did not glow; they were wide, frozen in death.
Allie felt her own eyes start to burn, she knew the tears were coming. Quickly, she sprung up from her desk and made a beeline for the door. Some of her classmates stared, but no one looked too surprised-- it was common for students to burst into tears these days. She'd just made it out of the classroom when her chest started to tighten, locked with grief. Allie had enough time to round the corner into an empty corridor before her knees gave out. She fell against the stone wall, body sliding down it until she sat crumbled on the floor, and sobbed. One hand came up to cover her mouth, while the other went to her middle, desperately trying to hold herself together as the sobs continued to come. Her cries echoed off the corridor, deafening Allie's ears to the sound of approaching footsteps. She had no idea anyone had come until they were standing at her feet.
